This week, Lee Zeldin’s EPA announced “approving nationwide E15,” pitching it as “fortifying the domestic fuel supply.” What that means exactly is that the federal government will allow more stations to cut gasoline with ethanol, which, yes, makes it cheaper, but it also yields less power and worse fuel economy in your engine.

More Trump administration manipulation of gas prices. It is supposed to make gas cheaper.
Those who sell small engines are ecstatic.
If you gotta go, you gotta go. We try to limit going out due to the prices but that’s a little better than using glow in the dark gas. Well, if you were still around to use it.
My car can only handle 10% alcohol.
It says to stop driving and drain your gas tank, if you gave more.
I will enjoy dumping the tank contents onto the highway.
If your engine is not designed for E15, you may regret using it.
...I thought I read some years ago that the higher the ethenol content, the more likely an engine running on that fuel would burn up faster, or at least deteriorate more quickly....thanks, Great White Father, for all that you are doing for (to...??) us.....
This is a disappointment. The ethanol scam has been a fraud from the start, , makes CO2 worse than gas, gives less power, and wastes agricultural resources for only corrupt political reasons. I had hoped Trump would have deep-sized this program on day one.
My ecoboost f-150 loves ethanol mixed in. raises the octane level and it has a cooling affect when I run my E-30/E-50 tune. But, yeah don’t run it in an older vehicle without an alcohol sensor.
Some cars can’t handle lower octane or alcohol
Check out the ownership for this site.
My 27 year old Mantis Tiller requires ethanol-free gas or I pull my shoulder out trying to start it. A nation that burns its own food is either very wealthy or very stupid.
We have a Mantis. Honda engine?
I have basically switched to non-alcohol gas for my vintage 5.0 Mustang. Not because it has a problem with alcohol in the fuel. But the stations do not do a good job differentiating between the 10%, which is fine, and the 15% which is not.
I was stuck once having to use the 15% and it was an issue. I topped it off several times as it went down with non-alcohol, but it seemed to take nearly the entire tank to get it back to normal.
Now I just use the non-alcohol to be safe. It’s more costly but I don’t drive it that often to be much of a concern.
How sweet. Cut a bunch of regs and then pass one that kills off about a quarter of the nations vehicles.
I guess they really want everyone in a new car that’s easy to spy on and turn off if you vote the wrong way.
my battle hardened Outback v6 with 250,000 miles explicitly says that more than 10% will damage it. Nothing else seems to bother the beast.
They’re from the government and they’re here to help you.
Trump did better than expected in Iowa, because he went full-on for ethanol . . . “I LOVE Ethanol”. Scott Walker had been poling well, and thought he was taking the orthodox Republican position, but he was not able to recover and dropped out. Cruz won the caucus, but his support didn’t translate so well in New Hampshire.

Is there a gas additive that counteracts the bad effects of etanol on the engine?
