I had sepsis a few years, brought on by diverticulitis. Made it to the emergency room. They cut me open, cleaned out my insides. I woke up with big staples in my abdomen, and an ostomy bag, which I had to wear for 13 months. I’m all better now, but if I had delayed I would have died.
I have diverticulosis and will be on guard in case it progresses to an active infection. A friend of mine had the same thing happen to him as you have described. He is okay now but he had some very close calls before the infection was cleared up. Diverticulitis is no joke.
My wife had to have a bag for about the same time. I never saw her happier than the day after her reversal when she got to go to the bathroom.
I got sepsis from the same thing. I’ll never forget how sudden it came on. Out of nowhere, I started uncontrollably shaking and couldn’t stop. The ER staff told me that if I had delayed, the outcome would have been fatal. What sucks, though, is that after a few days in the hospital, I ended up getting C. diff from the heavy antibiotics, which prolonged my stay in the hospital another week.
