A gas explosion at a coal mine in China's northern province of Shanxi killed at least 90 people, state media reported Saturday.
Official news agency Xinhua said the accident at Changzhi city's Liushenyu coal mine happened on Friday evening. Around 247 workers were on duty at the time.
The agency initially reported early Saturday eight people were killed and 38 were trapped underground. Nine were still trapped as of Saturday afternoon, Xinhua said.
The cause of the explosion was under investigation, Xinhua reported, and rescue work is pressing on. Among the injured, many were hurt by toxic gas, according to state media CCTV.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an all-out effort to rescue the missing and an investigation of the accident's cause while holding those responsible accountable, reported Xinhua.
Shanxi province is known as China's main coal mining province. With a size larger than Greece and a population of around 34 million, the province's hundreds of thousands of miners dug 1.3 billion tons (1.17 billion metric tons) of coal last year, or almost a third of China's total.

China has a huge number of fatal explosions. Part of it is due to lax or absent safety rules. A large part is due to the anger of employees who haven’t been paid. They also have a problem with angry people becoming active killers because they’re upset with how they were treated by the government. So, they go to a kindergarten and kill children as revenge on the state, which is completely isolated from the public.
Based on the trans-killer incidents in the US, you’d think US culture is collapsing. US culture is probably a bit ill but compared with China it’s a mild cold compared with cultural Ebola.
Probably really 900...China has a Truth problem.

“How do they kill the children..”
Apparently, a kitchen knife is most common. The most recent case I’m aware of was an elderly man who had his property confiscated without compensation. There’s a (joke) mechanism where an ordinary citizen can ask for redress. They were giving him the runaround as the government had no intention of coughing up any money for an ordinary old man. The frustration got too much so he attacked a bunch of children as they are important to the government. (The government gives out bonuses and perks for having children.)
Those responsible will be executed in short order... Not much of a Commie fan, but when it comes to swift justice... They’re pretty good at dishing it out.
BTW - Those in line for a heart, kidney or liver transplant... Please submit your request immediately.
