PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A baby born during emergency surgery after his mother was shot in Buckeye has died, according to city police. The mother, identified by family as Abby, 17, is still recovering from her injuries.
The triple shooting happened outside a home in the Buckeye Westpark neighborhood, near Broadway Road and Miller Road, around 8:15 p.m. May 14.
Family members say Abby was shot in the back and forced to deliver her baby early. She named him Timmothy Rylee in honor of her friend, 16-year-old Rylee Montgomery, who was also killed in the shooting. Montgomery was pregnant at the time of her death.
A 22-year-old woman is also recovering from a gunshot wound.
Police say Montgomery’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, 18-year-old Michael Sanchez, was the shooter.
