Nancy Mace unveils legislation to ban naturalized citizens – like Ilhan Omar, Pramila Jayapal and Shri Thanedar – from serving in Congress

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) unveiled legislation Wednesday aiming to ban foreign-born US citizens from serving in Congress and other high levels of the federal government.

The South Carolina congresswoman singled out Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Shri Thanedar (D-Ill.) and Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) in announcing her joint resolution to add an amendment to the US Constitution that would prohibit naturalized US citizens from becoming federal judges, holding Senate-confirmed positions or serving in the House or Senate.

“All born in foreign countries, none were citizens by birth. All sitting in the United States Congress. All making clear every single day their loyalty is not to America,” Mace said of the trio of Democratic reps.

Mace noted the proposed amendment would impose the “very same standard the President and Vice President are already required to meet” on lawmakers and top government officials.

“The people writing America’s laws, confirming America’s judges, and representing America on the world stage should have one loyalty: America. Not any other country,” she argued.

“For too long we have allowed foreign born members to hold seats in this government while making clear they are America last, not America first,” Mace added. “We see it every day.

“This constitutional amendment will put an end to it.”

Twenty-six House members, including 19 Democrats and seven Republicans, were born outside of the US.

In the upper chamber, six senators – four Democrats and two Republicans – were born outside the US.

Changing requirements for Congress members will take a Constitutional amendment, not federal legislation.

Don’t forget all of the naturalized federal district judges that have been launching all of the bogus injunctions.

I don’t read into that any prohibition against additional requirements being enacted legislatively by Congress.

If it's in the Constitution, it requires an amendment to the Constitution to change. Otherwise our right to own firearms would have been removed any time Democrats held both houses of Congress and the presidency.

Absolutely. But whether that can be done legislatively or whether it would require a Constitutional amendment is another question. I suppose Congress could pass legislation defining natural born citizenship, but it would almost certainly be challenged in court - which may turn out to be the best way to go because at least then, the Supreme Court would be forced to finally weigh in on the matter.

The government should formally define a Natural Born Citizen (born on US soil to two parents, both of whom are US citizens at the time of the child’s birth) and then further state that no one can be elected to a federal office unless they are an NBC. And I’d like this extended to all judges as well.

Well, you can engage in fantasy if you like. Heck, sometimes the father isn't even known. How about if we can see if this step, that gets rid of 90% of the problem can be done first?

The item I cited is not a right. It’s a requirement.

Here is a stop gap idea. Make law that says only natural citzens born in the USA can get a security clearance.

well, there is this:

““No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.”
— U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 2, clause 2

so....?

I agree with the sentiment.

However, we can not have 2 class of citizens in United States of America. If you are a citizen, you are 100% citizen just the same as everybody else.

You can make it harder to obtain citizenship. Maybe harder history test, or add economics to the learning requirements. Even increase the vetting scrutiny to insure those accepted appreciate and cherish the gift.

But an American is an American with all rights, privileges and responsibilities as every other. All men are created equal....

"And I’d like this extended to all judges as well."

I'd would like to see this apply to the states as well. Only Natural Born Citizens as governors, state legislators, or state and county judges, county executives and county
council members as well as mayors and city council members and other officials. Include state and federal agencies, police officers and federal cabinet officials.

Seems like a rather outstanding idea, that should’ve been brought up for a vote long before now, especially since the country is currently overrun with tens of millions of illegal aliens.

Yes, ban the foreign born judges too! The District of Columbia has many foreigners imposing their views on us citizens. Judges, federal, state, and local need to be foreign born. Even they you still get the crazies.

I imagine this wouldn’t pass constitutional muster.

But, have at it.

Not true. Not every American has the right to be President - per the Constitution.
