Actor Harrison Ford told graduates at Arizona State University (ASU) to “extend social justice” to clean up the environmental “mess” his generation left behind for them.
The legendary “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” actor gave the commencement speech during a graduation ceremony on May 11, where he received an honorary Doctor of Arts and Humane Letters degree for his work in conservation.
Ford’s background in fighting climate change was a significant theme throughout the speech as he warned students about the need for “cultural change” to prevent “mass extinction” caused by corruption and global warming.
“Humanity is a part of nature, not above it,” Ford said. “We have an essential mandate to protect 30% of the world’s land and sea by 2030, to prevent the mass extinction, to slow the warming of our planet.
“Still, despite new science, new policies, we are still losing nature to profiteering, corruption, conflict — including land that is already protected on paper. These efforts matter, but they’re not enough.”
He continued, “We need cultural change. We need to extend social justice. We need to respect and elevate the Indigenous people that are being marginalized and, in many cases, killed in cold blood.
“These communities have long understood that the trees, the mountain, water, soil are not commodities. They are relatives to be cherished for following generations to embrace and protect.”
Ford encouraged graduates and members of their generation to go out and “change the world” after acknowledging that past generations, including his, left the world a mess.

If anyone is ever drafted at the last minute for a commencement speech, here’s a draft outline:
1) You all are the bravest, the smartest and the best generation in history and you will change America forever.
2) Everyone is at least a little bit trans.
3) What we need is more communism.
Credit to me is unnecessary.

The old “Indians were noble savages” myth. One thing liberals love to do is pretend to be Indians and make up stories that always add up to “they were communists”.
I don’t blame actors who are put in these situations that display what morons they are. I blame administrations who invite these people to be commencement speakers.
They do it of course to show the young minds full of mush that “see here is a famous rich person who believes all that crap we’ve been shoveling for four years!”

I’m wondering if ASU got some kind of quid pro quo from Disney for having Ford appear.
If so, ASU and Disney would be well advised to come clean about it before the intenet’s Baker Street Irregulars do it for them.

My son met him while working on an airplane. They talked about planes. My son didn’t mention anything about movies. Said Ford was very nice.
I liked him in spite of his politics until he started taking money - which he doesn’t need - to make Indy and Solo look like POS. He should have had more respect for the people who made him famous and wealthy.

Back in the 1980s, there was a comedian who joked about Lucille Ball still doing comedy in her 70s. The joke went something along the lines of - “Lucy doing a pratfall off of a chair on her show at age 75 isn’t funny, its horrifying.” I think of that line every time I see Harrison Ford in any recent movie doing action scenes.
