The Republican who stood up to Trump is hoping for a big win against president
BBC ^ | May 19 | BBC

Posted on 05/19/2026 2:34:32 AM PDT by RandFan

At a rally in a car park outside his campaign headquarters in Florence, Kentucky, on Saturday, congressman Thomas Massie said that the Republican politicians who joined him had made a brave choice.

"I'm sure they'll be punished for coming here today," he said.

It didn't take long for Massie's warning to prove prophetic, as Donald Trump took to Truth Social to make his displeasure known.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert of Colorado, who had been barnstorming with Massie all weekend, and Rand Paul, the Kentucky senator who endorsed Massie and shares his unorthodox small-government libertarianism, were "parading around like fools for the worst Republican congressman in the history of our party".

The president called Boebert "weak-minded" and "dumb" and said that he would withdraw his endorsement of her if a Republican challenger came forward.

Trump's threats weren't exactly realistic.

Paul doesn't stand for re-election for another two years. The filing date to run against Boebert in the Colorado Republican primary has already passed. But Trump's animosity toward Massie is very real - and it has had real consequences.

Even as Trump was visiting China last week, he was firing off posts attacking the congressman, whose district stretches along the Ohio River from the suburbs of Louisville and Cincinnati to the foothills of Appalachia. He has called him a "moron", a "loser", a "lowlife" and a "major sleazebag".

“Confirmed employee of Victoria Spartz aligning with the timeline she stated.”

WIKI

Spartz’s tenure was marked by high staff turnover. Congressional watchdog Legistorm measured her turnover in 2021 at three and half times the average of offices of House members, the highest turnover for a non-retiring member. In May 2022, Politico reported on what it described as a “toxic” environment within her office, with Spartz’s temper quickly jumping from tepid to boiling, and reported that “aides who have left after a couple of months did so because the work environment became untenable”. Examples of the office environment included Spartz ordering staff to record her direction to them and later denying the previously expressed instructions, despite the recordings. One former aide said, “the common theme: Staffers do their job, and then Victoria comes in saying that they have no idea what they’re doing, that they are ‘morons,’ calling them ‘idiots’”. Spartz responded that her working style is “not for everyone” and that her critics “need to ‘toughen up’”

That being said, if you’re not willing to help Trump and MAGA, don’t expect the votes of their supporters.

So it's okay because Clinton did it and didn't get removed from office? One of the most corrupt presidents we have had, one who still is remembered for his disgracefully tawdry behavior?

That's quite an argument there.

I'll wait to hear tonight, but I'll be surprised if Massie pulls this off at this point. I'll be happy to see him primaried. He deserves it for being such a two-faced fraud.

>I’ll be dancing on your head tomorrow.

I’m sure either way you will.

Notice I’m not definitive in my statements you’re the one posting those not me.

The reports ive seen from the district are positive, big crowds for Massie and national and international attention on this race (bizarrely so).

I reckon it’s close.

The voters will deliver their verdict.

Can we forget about one-upmanship?

No I meant betting markets and polls were in Hillary Clinton’s camp. Do you need reminding of this?

They’re 60/40 now for this one, they can easily flip or be wrong at this level

It was the inverse just a week ago, so it’s fluid

Actually the crowds with him and Boebert have been really small. Nobody is buying it. There is no groundswell of approval. It's gotten worse each day. The New York Times is trying to save him. The democrat machine is behind him. Massie actually had to ask them to stop endorsing him. If that's not an ironic situation, nothing is.

For those things alone, all that from his leftist retard friends, I hope he loses.

So you have an opinion why?
You should post about politics in your own country.

BBC (aka British Bull Crap) is supporting M-assie.

I’m shocked, shocked...

They do have their moments. It’s rare but it happens.

Just yesterday they reported on local businesses helping people smugglers laundering their $$$ through their stores (or shops).

Proper reporting. Just an example.

Sometimes it is best to say nothing.

Trump’s words might cost Republicans a House seat.

Nice collection of on-line analysis, jacknhoo.

What's laughable is the BBC is touted as an honest source by the poser.  Trump is suing the Leftist publication for a billion dollars or more due for their vindictive out-of-context video doctoring of Trump's January 6th speech.

I don't know anything about the betting markets back then. I do remember that her presstitute maggots were all saying it was a lock for her. That in the face of all the enthusiasm there was for Trump.

There is no such enthusiastic groundswell for Massie. The true parallel here is he, like Hillary, is a smug asshole who thinks he deserves to be elected. Unlike Hillary, Massie does not have a cheating machine to help him here.

I look forward to him becoming a member of "The View".

Define small.

It’s not a presidential race. The crowds have been healthy considering (from what i’ve seen).

And for Senator Paul who has also been criss-crossing the district campaigning for Massie...

I sense enthusiasm there but we’ll see...

Another report said that he was trying to force her to join others in a “swinging” setting.

My question is: IS SHE BLIND? What person, in her right mind, would cozy up to that disgusting creature? Eeeewwww. I can smell his dirty hair through the TV screen.

I watched the video of his first event with Boebert. It was a pathetic turn out. Cringeworthy. It's worse now that the report of him bragging about his having sex with Boebert just two weeks after his wife died has dropped. Rand isn't going to overcome that.

Like I said, hoisted on his own petard.

Massie’s opponent seems to have his own issues with character. So, Kentuckians seem to have a lose-lose situation.

Funny I guess you just pick the liberal news that fits your narrative. BBS says he is doing well, CNN says he has a 44% chance (CNN says he is likely to lose)

Honestly this is what people know as selection bias. I personally think it is close, I also suggest you try less agitprop and more honesty. It is obvious it is close and Massie is of course only putting on a good face, to think he is not worried is to be incredibly naive.

It’s hard to predict

They’ve spent 30 million+ trying to oust him along with a sitting president issuing screeds nearly every day and cabinet secretaries being dispatched.

It’s the most spent in US history for a primary like this and your republic is 250 years old so that’s some doing.

Anyone who goes against Trump is a traitor to me. Republican or not. Democrats win because they stick together. Dividing the Republican party is to guarantee a democratic win.
