Mark Fuhrman, the controversial LAPD detective who was convicted of lying on the witness stand in the OJ Simpson trial, has died. He was 74 years old.
TMZ reported that Fuhrman died a year after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of throat cancer.
Fuhrman was one of the first two police detectives sent to investigate the 1994 killings of Simpson's ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles.
The slayings and Simpson's trial exposed divisions on race and policing in America.
Fuhrman reported finding a bloody glove at Simpson's home but his credibility came under withering attack during the trial as the defense raised the prospect of racial bias.
Attorney F Lee Bailey cross-examined Fuhrman in an attempt to portray him as a racist whose goal was to frame Simpson.
Fuhrman denied using racial epithets, but the defense later turned up recordings of Fuhrman making racist slurs.
That brief recording heard by the jury was taken from 13 hours of interviews between Fuhrman and screenwriter Laura McKinny recorded between 1985 and 1994, with the last tape being made a month after Simpson was charged in his wife's murder.

The few times I heard Fuhrman talk in interviews, I liked him.
Also........OJ murdered Nicole & Goldman and walked because people with racial prejudice in their hearts weren’t civilized enough to overcome tribal thinking.
The racists were the jurors and those who cheered the failure of justice when they let a double murderer walk. May Mr. Fuhrman rest in peace...
So he was convicted of lying about ever using racial slurs, nothing to do with the substance of the OJ investigation.
Defense absurdly claimed he stole OJ’s blood sample and planted the blood evidence.
Tragic this would be twisted as though Simpson was innocent.
Should have just said I may have used the word (I forget what he actually said).
In fairness you’re right but the prosecutors weren’t up to dealing with all the publicity and the aggressiveness of top defense attorneys. Judge also was weak.
I will never forget that reaction from Howard University when the verdict was read.
I suspect he will. Just as I suspect Simpson is not. Justice denied in this life is meted out in the next.
Rest in peace to a good man and detective.
The fact that he may have said the N word years before the trial allowed a double murderer to walk free.
Agree with all you posted. A sad state of affairs.
They were going to find a way to throw the case one way or the other. They didn’t want the riots.
“The fact that he may have said the N word years before the trial allowed a double murderer to walk free.”
Considering who he was how many other officers, even black ones do you think said it?
You all know this was not OJ’s first run in with the law don’t you? It came out in the trial about how many domestic violence calls were made to that house. Even an 911 call made by Nicole where you can hear OJ screaming like a banshee in the background.
The article also neglected to mention his book Murder in Greenwich wherein he solved the Marth Mosley murder and Michael Skakel, a Kennedy relative eventually did serious time for it.
RIP. He was a good guy.
He torpedoed the prosecution’s case. Then I see him as an “expert” on Fox News and I said to myself, “is this all you have to do - be an opinionated failure and the media will adopt you?” Weren’t they the same with Marcia Clark?
This. It would have been bad enough if it had just been the Howard University student body, but it was the Howard University Law School student body. That is really scary. Incidentally, Heels Up graduated from Howard University Law School.
They tried to pin that on LAPD Det. Vanatter by saying he kept Simpson’s blood vial overnight and planted blood in the Bronco and on the socks at Rockingham.
The defense argued that Fuhrman planted the bloody glove in a conspiracy to frame Simpson.
Race relations went downhill ever since.

Absolutely appalling.
