The top baby names of 2025 have finally been revealed.
Olivia and Liam remain America’s most popular baby names for the seventh year, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The new rankings marked Liam’s ninth consecutive year as the most popular name. Liam — an Irish form of William — first claimed the top spot in 2017 and has remained there ever since. Olivia, whose name derives from the Latin word for “olive tree,” joined Liam at No. 1 in 2019, ending Emma’s five-year streak as the most popular girls’ name.
Here’s how the top baby names stacked up, according to SSA’s latest data.

“Last year, America’s most popular baby names remained consistent with years past, with minimal shifts in the top 10 rankings. Charlotte climbed to second place among girls, ending Emma’s six-year run in the runner-up slot. A top-10 fixture for years, Ava dropped from the list entirely – replaced by Eliana, which debuted at number 10. On the boys’ side, the top four names – Liam, Noah, Oliver, and Theodore – held their places,” the SSA said.
The list comes as policymakers renew efforts to support mothers and families amid a plummeting, record-low birthrate.
On Mother’s Day, the White House launched a website to help expectant mothers locate pregnancy centers and learn about health and wellness, a move framed as a nod to the pro-life and “Make America Healthy Again” movements, The Daily Wire exclusively reported.
Moms.gov addresses “the needs of mothers and fathers who face difficult or unexpected pregnancies and [ensures] the wellbeing of mothers and the health of American families,” the White House said in a statement.
An expectant mother visiting the site can search for nearby pregnancy care centers or federally qualified health centers and quickly find the closest option. The website also features information on the Department of Health and Human Services’ new dietary guidelines, along with nutrition resources for expectant mothers and details on Trump Accounts and Trump RX offerings for those hoping to conceive.
America is not alone in falling birth rates. In England and Wales, the fertility rate fell to a record low of 1.41 in 2024, marking the third straight year of decline, according to The Independent. Across the pond, however, baby-name trends look a bit different, with Muhammad recently surpassing Noah as the most popular boys’ name.

I’m glad the trend is back to traditional names. Can’t stand the “gender neutral” garbage that has been in style the last couple of decades.
After centuries of being in the top 3, John isn’t even on the list anymore. My, how the mighty have fallen.
Just like Chevy and GMC pickup sales, I think spelling variations (Sophia/Sofia) should be combined.
‘Jesús’ is still a popular Hispanic name. ;)
Mohamed, Javier, and Tyrone will be tops next year.
More people should name their baby girls, ‘Diana.’ A perfectly respectable, easy to spell, uncommon name. ;)
Mine is in the top 10. I hated it as an “old lady name” most of my life. Around age 70, I decided I liked it. (I was an old lady then.) Now it’s officially cool. Go figure.

Note that the second most popular name for either boys or girls is Oliver/Olivia, and that No. 28 for boys is "Bean", as in Mr. Bean. What are those Ozzies thinking?

You’d think “Bruce” would be Number One.
I read somewhere that people tend to name kids grandparents or great grandparents, even more than themselves or their parents.
Names go in cycles that repeat ~100 years.
Mateo is ass.
Theodor
The odor?
I have a great nephew named Liam and a great niece named Olive. I had no idea that these were such popular names.
Ha!
Unfortunately in England...
“Muhammad is the most popular boys’ name in England, retaining the top spot for the second consecutive year.”
New parents should do a mockabilty analysis and select safe names like “Karen” that have no negative connotations.
Diana is still at 244th. Meanwhile mine dropped off the top 1000 in 2010.
