Haha! It certainly is arrogance in a social situation, and offputting to most folks - like you apparently.
But most people are talking out their ass and don’t know squat about what they really need. The lawyer can’t tell them to STFU and just answer the questions he needs to know to save their asses so he has to listen to their bullshit, crybaby tales of woe and their irrelevant shit for hours. Hence the large bills and the arrogance.
One day momma is making him listen to how its the po-leese fault because they parked their squad car on the sidewalk when they came to arrest their no good criminal thug son, or some greedy bitch thinking she can get the whole house because he smashed his secretary on the desk.
And, finally I’ll add that everybody loves their lawyer when he is kicking the shit out of their opponent or his lawyer. So when people are hating on them, it is usually because they had a lawyer who did not do a very good job at being an arrogant prick.
