The Los Angeles City Council voted 14-0 to advance restrictions on police traffic stops rooted in one dangerous idea: That cops enforcing traffic laws are somehow the real threat on the streets of LA.
Not the drunk driver.
Not the gang member carrying an illegal gun.
Not the reckless driver blowing through intersections at 90 miles per hour.
The cops.
Only in LA could elected officials look at street disorder and decide the problem is still too much policing.
Read the motion that passed and the message is obvious: Los Angeles is now governed by people who start with suspicion of the LAPD.
Their presumption seems to be that officers are out there waiting to abuse motorists unless City Hall puts another leash on them.
The chief architect of this madness is City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, who has spent years trying to move traffic enforcement away from police officers.
On his own official city website, Harris-Dawson says LA policing has relied on traffic stops “as a method to fish for potential criminal suspects.” He also declares that “it is unnecessary to have armed law enforcement stopping people for vehicle code violations.”

No, this is communist governance 101.
Are your crime statistics bad? You’re over reporting.
It’s the Mao way.
RAT “city councilors” are a couple of steps below dog catchers and garbagemen but it does beat having to work for a living.
This is what you do when the criminals are your constituents.
I saw this earlier
LA is worth saving. Vote Spencer Pratt.

My first thought:
No, it’s not.
The evidence is all over.
Oh, there’s a law, alright. The law prevents LEO from chasing you and putting the collar on you.
I used to teach philosophical ethics to nurses in training. One morning their assignment was to analyze the report that troopers in OH decided to refuse pulling over black drivers because they were tired of being called racists. When the class ended, I went to the faculty lounge. The second plane had just plowed into the WTC. I thought I was seeing my Pearl Harbor and things would change. Instead, things got worse.

Kinda reminds of the old Supreme Soviet votes. Always unanimous in favor of what Stalin wanted.
No dissent.
It’s the Soviet way.
Brain-dead idiots
Hate to say this, but I agree with them. Is it really necessary to pull people over for victim loose infractions such as failing to signal or rolling a stop sign? And then your insurance rates go up a hundreds of dollars? Mistakes happen, there are worse things going on.
The biggest joke is small towns and villages with low populations, that have their own PD. They already paying for a state and county services, and they have their own revenue generators to boot. Complete waste of money, one reason why taxes are sky high, and people can’t afford to live anywhere.
City revenue will plummet. Crime will rise.
The real brain dead idiots are the people who elected these lunatics.
I suppose in some communities the desire to live in a real life post apoplectic world is overwhelming.
> Is it really necessary to pull people over for victim loose [victimless] infractions such as failing to signal or rolling a stop sign? <
Here’s a counter-argument. It’s the “broken windows” theory. If you let the small stuff go, you’re gonna get more of the big stuff.
Some people comment that police resources are wasted on simple traffic stops.
We started watching police bodycam videos of traffic stops. This is perfect example of the broken windows policing. So, so many of the drivers that ignore regular driving rules are also criminals. From suspended license, to active arrest warrants.
Lost Angeless might as well recruit Tren De Aragua for their security.
Awesome. I am in full support of this policy in Los Angeles.
Rigged/stolen elections have consequences.
Fury at LA City Hall plot to deploy civilian army to replace traffic cops: ‘Deadly demolition derby’
Many traffic stops catch those guilty of more serious offenses. Traffic stops are as dangerous to the police as domestic violence calls. Bad people react unpredictably.
If you watch the “live” cop shows on TV it becomes clear why traffic stops are critically important to keep communities in somewhat decent shape.
Minor equipment violations are an indicator of other issues—probably about half the time.
Folks high on drugs or drunk on alcohol are much more likely to drive without valid licenses or registration or insurance—as one example.
They are also much more likely than the average driver to fail to appear in court on warrants—as another example.
LA City Council sides with criminals.
Yet they still wonder how California became one of the biggest shit hole city in the nation.
Many players in that gig aka democrats.
LA streets are a death trap anymore.
