The mayor of a small Georgia town has axed its entire police force for upsetting his wife, who’d previously been accused of creating a “hostile work environment.”
Cohutta Mayor Ron Shinnick shut down the Cohutta Police Department and fired all 10 of its employees earlier this week after officers allegedly made “inappropriate comments” about his spouse on Facebook, WDEF reported.
“The PD has been dissolved, and all personnel have been terminated,” read a brutal sign on the department’s door first thing Wednesday.
It wasn’t immediately clear if cops were notified in advance or only found out they’d been fired when they showed up expecting to work.
“They’ll get a paycheck. We’re not that way, and I appreciate their service, okay? It is time for a change,” Shinnick said bluntly when asked about the controversy.
The petty saga erupted late last month when several officers lodged formal complaints about the town’s former clerk, Pam Shinnick — who is also the mayor’s wife — continuing to work for the town despite having been fired.
She was terminated last year for apparently creating a “hostile work environment” in the town of less than 1,000 people — but allegedly still had access to personal and classified information.

Sounds like a good time to rob the town bank!

Wife of a high official creating “hostile work environment”?
Impossible!..................
Ten cops for a town of 1,000 people? When I was a kid we got by with two, who doubled as snow plow drivers in the winter.
How can I read this and not imagine Barney Fife and deputized Goober, Gomer, and Otis standing at a attention to get a dressing down? (Andy wouldn’t say anything about the mayor’s wife, and his office is elective. Not easily fired.)
Good luck hiring replacements. Potential candidates know they could be fired on a whim from such a snowflake mayor.
A town of less than 1,000 people has a police force with 10 employees? Seems quite high compared to towns in my area.

He violated my wife's honor. He insulted her. He made a very insensitive joke about her body to some friends of ours. He said she was havin' a 90 pound mole removed from her ass. The implication was that her ass is so big, she can have a mole that size removed from it.
Chivalry isn’t dead.
That was a funny episode.
I grew up in a small town. That sheriff will be moving towns in a few years -guaranteed.
Looter’s paradise. Good song title.
In the town of less than 1,000 people and ten employees in the police department. A bit out of the norm. The average in the US is about 2.4 officers per 1,000 residents.
At-will private sector employees can be fired for any reason, or for no reason at all. But I thought public employees were covered by civil service laws and were entitled to due process.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Too much power.
Almost an episode of Carter Country.
A town of 1,000 people should only have a volunteer fire department.
How can a small town afford 10 fire department employees?
Every 100 people, including kids, are paying for one fire department employee.
That is just one department.
Do they have 10-20 police employees? How about other departments?
Appalachian town of 1,800 people and we have 2 and a chief. One of the cops is a woman with a British accent.
“Good luck hiring replacements.”
Anyone that is hired and does something that stupid as to publicly identify themselves on anything that appears to be not carrying weight between their ears, won’t be that hard to be replaced. Perhaps the bank robbers would take the job for a steady income. Even they can’t be everywhere and most likely won’t tell anyone anything on social media.

I can hear the Chief now, “My name is Jeeeeff.” Other thought is the Chief or wife is embezzling money. Lots of it.
