Does anybody actually believe the story? Even as a child I found it to be very suspect...........
I don’t think it would have resonated down through the past 100-150 generations if there weren’t a true story behind it. Just because George Washington didn’t chop down the cherry tree doesn’t mean he never lived.
I believed it.
But then I also believed my brother when we drove by a harbor and he exclaimed, “Oh, look! They’ve raised the boats in the harbor.” He explained that boats are waterproof and they sink them in the fall for protection and raise them again in the spring. Years later, as a new 19 year old bride, I repeated that same story to my new husband as we drove by the same harbor.
Sigh.
I liked the possibility, but yeah...it didn’t seem probable to me.
