In practice, the surgical oncologist prescribes a PPI to protect the anastomosis from acid damage. I was prescribed pantoprazole initially. It was causing gynecomastia. After the stent was placed in my stomach, I was prescribed omeprazole. It caused horrible itching and red welts all over my body. The current choice is famotidine. It seems to be working without intolerable side effects. No idea if there are other issues happening in the background.
