A starving baby sea lion that was found last month waddling down the middle of a street in Silicon Valley has made a full recovery, rescuers announced Thursday.
The California sea lion pup was found on Bordeaux Drive in Sunnyvale, next to the Google campus, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. The young pinniped was named “Bordeaux” based on where he was rescued.

(Photo: Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety) Bordeaux was skinny and starving, rescuers said, and was taken to The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. The pup received life-saving care at the facility and continued to show improvement.
On Wednesday, Bordeaux was released back into the wild after his successful recovery.
“While our officers are trained to respond to lost animals,” Sunnyvale DPS wrote, “a sea lion is an unusual challenge they met with ease.”

Sea Lions don't usually wander this far inland. If you know this are, it does border the very South part of the San Francisco Bay, but that's not an area you really find sea lions, or other large marine life.

“AI Overview
That famous resident was Hoover, a harbor seal (not a sea lion) known for his thick New England accent, who lived at the New England Aquarium from the 1970s to 1985.
Rescued as a pup in Maine, he mimicked his owner’s phrases, often shouting “Hello there!” or “Get over here!” to visitors.
This video explains how Hoover the talking seal was found and his unique ability to mimic human speech:00:56Hoover the Talking Seal: A Unique Talentmndiaye_97TikTok• Jan 24, 2022The Story: Hoover was raised by George Swallow in Maine, who talked to the seal, leading to his uncanny ability to mimic human speech, which was later studied by researchers.
The Legacy: After passing away in 1985, his legacy continued through his grandson, Chacoda, who also learned to produce sounds resembling human words at the same aquarium.
Today: The aquarium still houses Atlantic harbor seals in the same outdoor exhibit, and visitors can watch daily training sessions.”
Looking at a map and spending where he was found looks like under a mile from the bay. But it’s very marshy in that part of the bay and you wouldn’t expect to see them hanging around there
The scent of Mexian food probably motivated his wandering.Apparently the costal waters of California have been overfished. Sea lions and some whales are starving and are behaving oddly.
Sweet baby. We’re very happy that he’s healthy again. Do hope, however, that he finds his family or at leeast some friends very soon. All the sea lions I’ve ever seen were in groups, many of them in San Francisco Bay.
