WASHINGTON — The lawyer for White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting suspect Cole Allen gave an absurd reason why the CalTech grad should be allowed to walk free pending trial, claiming he was “not a danger to anybody” — despite charges that he attempted to assassinate President Trump.
Defense attorneys claimed that Allen, 31, was not prepared to carry out a mass shooting in the room where Trump, first lady Melania, and most of the top members of the administration were in attendance, because he had a pump-action shotgun, his team wrote in papers Wednesday.
“Mr. Allen has no criminal history — not even prior arrests, which alone would rebut the presumption of detention,” they wrote in an 11-page filing.
“The government’s rhetoric about a ‘mass shooting’ is also unsupported by its own proffered facts. Mr. Allen was not alleged to be holding an automatic or even semi-automatic weapon that are the hallmarks of the modern-day mass shooting,” they added.
Allen was carrying a fully loaded 12-gauge Mossberg Maverick shotgun with an extended magazine tube when he tried to barge through a Secret Service checkpoint at the dinner, feds say.
Prosecutors also released a selfie he took showing him heavily armed — including with a .38 Super-caliber semi-automatic handgun and multiple knives.

AGREED
Ol’ Lucas is dog slow. Current Cowboy shooter Deuce Stevens has run 10 rounds out of a Winchester 1873 in 1.57 seconds. No mods other than slicking the action.
No kidding. I think I have to drag my Sig Match Elite out to the range (sold all my Colts, they either were ammo picky or inaccurate).
He does now.
Dei hires no doubt. “Dey nos da skreets”
If this defense is the best public defenders got for this very serious offense, the dood is screwed. And the domino effect is in play for Roofus in the future. Well done, democrats! Well done
A .38 Super-caliber semi-automatic handgun with hours of target practice? Once he got into the dining hall, he could have taken people out as fast as his trigger finger could wiggle.
Exactly. I see a very good chance that he, and mansions, walk free. I am surprise$ they even found someone to press charges.
Iffy that a DC grand jury would indict him for anything other than a weapons charge. Very unlikely that a DC jury would convict him of any charge since the jury pool would consider taking out Trump and his administration officials a mitigating circumstance. Only need one juror to vote “not guilty” to stop everything.
And manifestly published an entire hit list!
This is reminiscent of that old joke about the guy who murdered his parents and then begged for the mercy of the court because he is now an orphan.
“Not a danger to anybody…..he agrees with politically.’
They’re not turning out any Clarence Darrow’s these days, are they?
Your honor, Can I go home now?
My Lightweight Commander in .38 Super has functioned well with everything I’ve fed it. Although for accuracy it seems to prefer the 124 grain Hornady XTP over some Silhouette.
The Sig V Crowns run a close second.

“ when he tried to barge through a Secret Service checkpoint”
One would consider the magnetometer to be a checkpoint. He didn’t just try to barge through it, he barged through it. We all saw the video.
I love my Sigs. Recently acquired 2 Legion models. 229 and 226.
Great guns.

What vintage is your Commander? I had a 60’s which had a Barsto barrel, reasonably accurate but only fed FMJ.
The Sig feeds everything I’ve put through it. The most reliable Super I owned was a Sig P220. Problem was finding magazines, I had 5, and did very well when I sold it.
Colt website says 1968. Fun little gun. It likes the 125 grain FMJ well enough but I had to play around with the JHP a bit.
They’re moving right around 1,200 fps when I chrono them. I get the brass from Midway and roll my own since I went through the factory stuff I got from Ammoman.
Now ask me about the Model 70 Super Grade in .300 Win Mag I just got. LOL
