Can Virginia Be Fixed?

If Republicans don’t act fast, Virginia will turn into Colorado, but it doesn’t have to happen that way, although it’ll be hard to undo the damage.

Election Day 2025 was a broad disaster for Republicans. Everyone could see that.

New Jersey stayed blue, but Virginia went back to being blue at the state level, and the Virginia Democrat party took greater dominance over the Old Dominion’s state legislature.

Nationally, Republicans could not avoid the backlash in voter turnout, since the common pattern is that the party out of power rebounds in the Virginia and New Jersey elections the year after the Presidential election.

However, Democrats didn’t just rebound, they superabounded, especially in Virginia.

It didn’t have to end this way. There was hope that things could have turned around for Republicans to retake the state. After all, they scored a nice upset in 2021, in reaction to President Joe Biden’s first disastrous year in office. Republicans took back the Virginia House of Delegates, and all three major executive offices—Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General—came back to the Republicans.

Hope sprang again in the hearts of the national Republican conference. Republicans could rebuild from the Democrats’ imposed rack and ruin, couldn’t they?! For the previous eight years, Virginia had suffered under two Democrat governors, and then voters watched the General Assembly fall into Democrat hands, first in the state senate, and then the House of Delegates.

From 2019 to 2021, the Democrat party pushed through its wish list of progressive demands, including gun control, LGBT promotion, hand-outs to the public sector unions (although the Democrats could not remove right-to-work from the state constitution), and more taxes and spending. And who can forget the relentless assault on parental rights and the rampant pornography pushed in the public schools?!

Virginia, please don’t become Colorado. Don’t ruin a perfectly good state.

STARVE THE BEAST!

Gradually phase out and eliminate the scam of “location pay” in which federal employees in blue states are paid substantially more in blue states than they are paid for the same work in flyover country. Do that by reducing the “location pay” by half of each year’s pay increase in base pay.

It is technically possible to build a nice house for $50,000.

Levying $7,000/year in property tax on a house and charging $20,000/year for a family’s health care cost coverage isn’t going to be possible for many more years.

Most of us live most of our lives in areas of a few square miles.

My county in Florida much resembles the Fairfax County, Virginia I left in 1994.

Colorado has indeed been Californicated. Thankfully, I’m capable of leaving for a civilized state and plan to do so as soon as our obligations to my wife’s father end.

Quitting is not an option for patriots. If a fix is not possible now, Democrats should at least be made pay a price for their wins. How about ads detailing the vote cheating, illegality, and unfairness involved in the gerrymandering vote?

In 1970 one in a 100 there was a foreigner, now it’s one in 10. Also, as DC has consolidated massive amounts of power since that time, since the national security state is utterly exploded in size, all of the companies and banking related to those industries have moved there. That means most of Virginia is centered around the goal of a large uncontrolled National government.
So the answer is no, it cannot be fixed. At least not unless that land slide in the Canary islands happens. But we can’t count on that.

The intelligence community, the military, progressive women, and illegal aliens, and foreigners run Virginia now. All hard left.

We Virginians are sick.

NOVA - Northern VA, is 99% Fed Gov & communist, and solid Blue now drops all the way down to Fredericksburg, half way into the state, as Fed workers have to live not-to-far from their big-bucks Fed jobs. Abigail was one of those Fed workers, CIA no less - USSR owned.

NOVA is NOT VIRGINIA! More like the USSR!

And all of us conservatives can do nothing about it - we are vastly outnumbered.

Add to that a weak Repub party and we are TOAST!

Be nice if we could cut off NOVA into Northern VA like West VA - but no way to make that happen. And NOVA LOVES control over the whole state. Look at a map of districts and see how Red most of VA is......but we are powerless.....

And I and our 8 kids are too embedded here to move - tho some want to move to FLA where I and my family came from.....

In a word? No. Only if a couple of meteors land in Richmond and NOVA.

No such thing. You just aren't uncomfortable enough to move yet. If you wait that long though, you might be become absolutely destitute, and won't be able to make a fresh start somewhere else without becoming a refugee. If you see the handwriting on the wall, then don't wait until the wall crashes in on you. Move.

Some other reasons for not quitting:

The gerrymandering vote was close enough that cheating may have done it for the Democrats.

The Republicans got into the fight too late, and their early ads were a disaster (”Vote ‘no’ because it’s bad for black people.”)

Even their pitiful effort required the Democrats to drain their coffers big time to win.

Virginia turned from Red to Blue because Washington expanded massively. How can Virginia be fixed? Chop the size of the federal government. Get rid of federal workers. All these games about increasing the size of DC or redistricting aren’t going to solve the problem. Since Obama, a huge number of militant government workers were imported into the state who will vote Dem. Will Republicans cut the federal workforce? Probably not. So the problem won’t be fixed.

Don’t forget that former “conservative” Governor Youngkin sign the state “marriage equality” bill into law, which soured a LOT of conservatives in the state for the Party. He could have easily vetoed it and banked a lot of conservative bona fides.

I’m 81, in my home on 12 acres for 26 years, where I have full automotive shop w/lift, 5,000 sq.’ house I built myself, a 3-car attached garage and a 2-car detached garage, collection of 5 Porsches as I used to restore them but now just collect like-new old ones.

While I’m healthy, in good shape, and very active, I think moving would kill me. Our family & 7 grandkids are close, and finding a place in FLA would be almost impossible. I was born there & have lived all over the state, know of no place I’d like to live. FLA is too congested with Northerners and old people who don’t drive safely. I drive like I’m 50. Do everything like I’m 50. I was a runner and ran until I was 69. I’m retired EE.

But no way I could handle moving to FLA.

I hate you. I’m stuck here because of Healthcare. I’d love to go home to Tennessee even if I have to deal with migratory Yankees and coastal parasites.
