When I was growing up, the Pres and VP were not in the same room together in case of assassination attempt. Then it seemed to become okay, as long as the Speaker of the House wasn't there at the same time as the Pres & VP.. Last night, all 3 were in the same room. That would have left a 92 yr old Sen. Grassley in charge. I wonder if he would have taken the oath & quickly passed the baton to Rubio, who is next in line?
What ever happened to the line of succession rules (protocol) of the past?

Now I’m wondering if Rubio was there last night, also?

He was wearing a tuxedo at the press conference so I assume he was there.
I saw Patel, but didn’t notice Rubio there.
I remember the same. They were not even the same building back in the day. What happened to that?
I don’t know, but I think there needs to be some serious thought about returning to rules they had in the past.
There is always at least one of the individuals named in the line of succession in a safe place. It just used to be a higher ranked individual during the cold war.
Protocol calls for a “Designated Survivor”. Who was it last night?
“The person designated to stay away from major events like the State of the Union or presidential inaugurations to preserve the line of succession is called the designated survivor. Typically a member of the President’s Cabinet, this individual is kept at a secure, undisclosed location during events where the President, Vice President, and other government officials gather.”
I’m assuming old Sen. Grassley wasn’t at the dinner. But is that who we want next in line?
They need to re-think and get more serious about who’s gonna be left in charge.

I thought the same thing too. They didn’t even wound him.
There was a movie (1960s? Maybe) that had some calamity happen to US leadership and the next President ended up being a colored guy who was the US Postmaster General. Not sure if Postmaster is still in the succession line or not?
No it would have left Mike Johnson in charge. Then Grassley after him.
