Initially spreadsheets were a tool for efficiency and profit, and then QUICKLY became a tool for inefficiency.

The interstate system was a tool for economic effiency and then became a heavy maintenance cost. The first mile of interstate was an incredible return. The last mile was a negative return.

The economic law of diminishing returns.
