Sobbing killer driver begged her victim's family for forgiveness in court - only for them to shout VERY satisfying reply

A Las Vegas woman who mowed down a young father with her Tesla as he was crossing the street has begged his family for forgiveness in court.

Karen Cannon, 64, left pedestrian Patrick Deloria for dead after she struck him with her Tesla Model Y on May 13 last year and drove off.

She pled guilty to one count each of reckless driving resulting in death and attempt duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death in January, court records show.

Cannon appeared in court for her sentencing hearing on Wednesday and sobbed as she asked Deloria's widow and family for forgiveness.

'It's unfortunate, I didn't mean for this to happen. I'm so sorry,' she cried, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. 'Please forgive me, please.'

His family, who were seated in the courtroom gallery, shouted back: 'No.'

Deloria, 32, was crossing a busy intersection when Cannon cut off another vehicle and hit him at speeds of around 66mph, an arrest warrant said.

The impact of the collision sent him flying approximately 155 feet into the air. Paramedics rushed to help, but Deloria was pronounced dead at the scene.

Correct! We don’t forgive someone for their benefit we forgive for our benefit. Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting your enemy to get sick.

But it is a lot easier said than done, that is for sure!

The perp should have instead asked God for His forgiveness as IT matters, where as forgiveness by the victims family changes nothing.

Was the car a Tesla in self driving mode? I just rode in one yesterday and was amazed at its capabilities.

Whether the evildoer is Christian or not is irrelevant. And while attempting to vainly cover up the crime immediately after it happens is wrong, it's also a very common impulse (goodness knows I've seen it in my kids, even down to when one was 10 months old!) That doesn't tell us anything about the regret and reflection that takes place over time.

The sad thing about cases like this is that the unforgiving attitude ends up hurting the victims family more than the evildoer. They can't let it go and it just eats at them.

it has ZERO relevance

I absolutely, utterly, categorically, and in no uncertain terms disagree with that statement and with the entire thrust of your post. I consider it to be pure falsehood, completely disconnected from reality.

I hope that you understand my position clearly.

the make and model should not be part of the “news”

It is pertinent in this case. Besides the forementioned cameras recording everything, Teslas and EVs in general are much quieter, and they they accelerate very quickly. That information does not exculpate the perp, but it helps us get a clearer picture of what happened.

“And why does the make and model of the vehicle matter at all.”

It goes with the photo ti help visualize the damage.

The picture of the victim is heartbreaking. You can tell how much he loved that poor little boy, now with no daddy

From an arrest scene in a slightly humorous cop movie:

Suspect: “blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah blahblahblahblahblah ...”

Officer: “You have the right to remain silent ... I suggest you exercise it.”

When I encounter cars passing within an intersection to gain an advantage I think “didn’t they tell you in your license test you can’t do that?”

As if they cared.

It shows why the law was written that way.
As if she cares about traffic laws.

“Curious if Tesla has copies of the deleted videos ?”

I would bet that the videos are still there. Most user deletion functions merely delete the video address.

Don’t know about other parts of the world but in California Tesla drivers are the worst drivers on the road.

Ego or stupidity one of them is a winner.

Society should require life imprisonment for this one. There is no way she should be let loose in society again.

“Letting go” does not require forgiveness.

God does not even forgive, without repentance. How can you begin to justify your stance? It is not biblical, at all.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean the crime didn’t happen, and it doesn’t mean the person shouldn’t go to prison. It means you are handing the “right to revenge” over to God so that bitterness doesn’t destroy you.

Repentance requires telling the truth and not lying or deleting the evidence.

You cannot forgive a different sin or a made up one.

Society should execute via capital punishment such a deadly crime and coverup.

And why does the make and model of the vehicle matter at all.

In this case it's a Tesla. Teslas record everything; audio, video, speed, inertia, accelerating or braking, etc.

Interesting how a UK paper would describe the unchristian response as “very satisfying” and thus promote an antichristian ideology of unforgiveness.

She pled guilty to one count each of reckless driving resulting in death and attempt duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death in January, court records show...

'Please forgive me, please.' His family, who were seated in the courtroom gallery, shouted back: 'No.'

....the judge instead ordered that she spend between three years and eight years in prison...

She is guilty of failing to report, and of denial and ,covering it up besides recklessness resulting in manslaughter. It is good that she was remorseful, and begged for forgiveness, but could have said that she was guilty on multiple counts and worthy of whatever justice the court required.

Meanwhile, the victims themselves are also guilty of misuse of instruments that God have given them, perhaps even if not in that degree (but have they aborted children?) of this women's guilt, and should drop the charges against her in their hearts (though measures to prevent her from doing so again to others could be required), as they will one day plead for mercy for the misuse of what God gave them, and the effects of them.

And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. (Luke 11:4)
