@Geiger_Capital
This is insane…
The Virginia redistricting amendment on the ballot today is framed as a vote to "restore fairness in the upcoming elections."
In reality, it turns a state that Kamala barely won by 5 pts from 6D-5R to 10D-1R

Didn’t Texas redistrict to correct a map unfairly gerrymandered on race (which is now illegal)?
Virginia just did this because they wanted to gain seats.
Gotta give them credit. We know they're running the ball up the middle. But we let them do it anyway.
"There are some republicans who are actually democrats, there are no democrats who are republican." - Chris Plante
Yes but they did it illegally. A judge struck it down but the state supreme court said the election had to occur in order to rule it unconstitutional.
Likely as the USSC has greenlighted Texas's plan to redistrict, this too will pass muster, especially with voter approval.
Ironic also as it was Trump who pushed Red States to redistrict to help protect the GOP house majority. End result Blue states did it better where it appears the Dems will have a nine seat pick up because of gerrymandering. Trump hoisted on his own petard?
Once elected, Democrat representatives are not expected to 'represent' their districts, they are expected to rubber stamp whatever harebrained scheme their leadership is promoting. As a resident of update New York, I can tell you that my area looks more like Iowa than Manhattan, yet Democrats from this area fall vote for what the Democrat leaders from New York tell them to vote for - their constituents be damned.
Whenever you hear Democrats say Donald Trump is a threat to democracy, I just shake my head.
Yes, but ahead of the normal schedule.
Usually this junk is reserved for the few years after the census. Then it is set for ten years.
I understand why Texas did it. But it triggered the efforts in all of these other states.
What CA did was horrible. VA is even worse.
The house is supposed to represent people in districts in their states. There was never any assumption that they should represent the voting classes across a state. So, the argument that the 35% of MA voters (for instance) who are NOT democrats are “disenfranchised” is just not paying attention to what this is supposed to do.
If there were a way to start at one border and just create blocks of 300,000 people (which is I think is around the current ratio) and then make a line to start another district that would be wonderful. This whole, “one side of a street would have different representation than the other side of the street” is BS. It should be objective and non-partisan.
But when you let politicians make the rules to rule themselves you get messes like this.
And to add to that…
We should go back to smaller districts and more reps. This crap of limiting the seats rather than expanding with population should be stopped. It concentrates too much power in each seat.
If we can build new ball rooms…we can build a new house of rep chamber.
What political solution is there to the tyranny of democracy?
One of the most ignorant comments I ever read. If you were actually informed, you would known Democrats have been doing this repeatedly with numerous state examples already on the books.
Democrats started it and when it got called out they went even harder, it is not game theory is it abuse the system and blame the other guy for what you have already been doing.
Several blue states have long had almost 0 to 0 percent representation of conservative populations that are much greater percentages than reflected in the districting, but I guess it was ok when they do it?
Wow, go learn some political history.
I’d love to see Trump issue an Executive Order that the 1847 retrocession of DC to the Commonwealth of Virginia is unconstitutional and forcing the courts to weigh in on redistricting. If Arlington county and Alexandria belong to the District of Columbia, yesterday’s stunt would become null and void. Trump could essentially redistrict Virginia with the stroke of a Sharpie.
“Fairness” my obama. All the rats care about is POWER!
Nah, you just started to pay attention now. Illinois is as gerrymandered as can be. They were the ones who came up with idea of incorporating sections of city into suburban districts to make them ALL blue. My district used to be Donald Rumnsfeld’s. Now we are connected with ‘Boys town” in Chicago, 30 miles away. Texas just decided to play the game. Florida needs to do the same. Fight fire with fire
“Look, honey! They want fair elections. We better vote ‘yes’ on this.”
And by the way - why shouldn’t Trump use this nuclear option?
He can’t run again, and what’s one more thing the dems could impeach him for?
It would throw a giant eff at Spamberger who took a swing at the king - and things she won.
Game theory means Dems lose.
All that needs to happen is for Republican states to continue this
“Pursuit of fairness”
Even the impending 2030 census shows the doom democrats face.
I support Texas enacting its right to add 8 more senators to the U.S. senate.
I wonder what some of the old families of Virginia feel about this?
Move to W VA.
And they won’t stop here. As Carville said, if Newsom is elected they will immediately end the filibuster, pack the court and vote in two new states - DC and PR - and 4 new Democrat Senators, thanks to the Founders’ stupidity in allowing this with a simple majority vote.
