Iconic rock star Dave Mason, who found fame as the lead singer and co-founder of Traffic, alongside Chris Wood, Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi died on Sunday, April 19, at the age of 79. His family confirmed the news in a statement issued by his rep. No cause of death was revealed, but it read: "On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dave Mason. On Sunday, April 19, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, celebrated songwriter, musician, singer, and author, passed away peacefully at his home in Gardnerville, NV. Dave Mason lived a remarkable life devoted to the music and the people he loved," it touchingly concluded.

Had not heard of Dave Mason until Cal Jam 2.
I was a Dave Mason fan from that point on.
As pointed out above, he helped fund music programs at children’s schools.
So sad, enjoyed his music. I have Certfied live in my LP collection and saw him way back in 1981 or so at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach CA.

Sometimes one knows the name of the group because that’s what the stations used to identify. It was more common to know the group members if you bought their album.
For me, it was Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Judy Collins. Classic Rock was a late love.

It’s so good that so many people got to see him live. They’ll keep his memory alive longer.
The ability to create music and to touch someone’s heart is priceless. Thank goodness we live in a time when recordings can be made and kept. I think of the musicians I’ve heard who were recorded when they were old and whose music was saved, and then think of all of the artists who created magic that went into the air and was lost with them in the distant past.
I have a copy of my 5th great grandfather’s handwritten music manuscript book and have transcribed about half into midi just to try to bring that past back to life.
So accurately describes so many failing relationships...
