World Cup in crisis as ticket, travel and transport bust-up kicks off between host states and Fifa who are making $11bn

THE 2026 World Cup is shaping up to be expensive for fans.

Depending on what stadium your ticket is for — if you even got one due to exorbitant prices — transit and lodging costs are cripplingly high.

This year’s World Cup was marketed as a tournament to get Americans excited about soccer and be a place where all fans could come and watch their countries compete.

Instead, it has become a bidding war with both Fifa and local governments setting incredibly high prices.

The cheapest tickets for less favorable games start at around $140 for a seat, but can range upwards of $11,000 for more exciting games.

Take, for example, the United States’ opening game against Paraguay in Inglewood, California on June 12.

Earlier this month Fifa added new tiers of tickets, charging up to $4,105 for a “front category 1” seat.

The less desirable “category 1” seats still sold for $2,735 and the even lesser “category 2” tickets ranged between $1,940 to $2,330.

If a fan did end up getting a ticket at an affordable price, they are now facing incredibly high transit costs.

This month, just weeks away from the start of the tournament, New York/New Jersey and Boston both announces massive price hikes to transportation to and from host stadiums.

45 years ago when I was in law school at the University of Oklahoma, I scored one of my favorite and rare bumper stickers at a rugby scrum. It said “Give blood. Play rugby.” This was during the usual run of the football team competing for a natty.

I would rather watch bowling.

And I am not being sarcastic for once.

I hate soccer.

Just a bunch of crybabies trying to work the refs to get a penalty called.

If you don’t get my drift, just watch Luka Doncic do his crybaby act for 48 minutes.

That’s basketball, not soccer.

Ticket prices are ridiculous.

But if anyone wants to see a real man's sport...check out the Irish game of Hurling.

It's a profesionally sport. Fast, rough, and I have to believe that there is some degree of drinking involved before the game starts.

Ghettoing up anything is an abysmal idea. Including and especially my ‘hood. So far, so good. My MD is Black and a superior physician who lives with his wife and kids in a nice neighborhood. Not a gheto threat. He’s from Nigeria.

Anyway, please ping me when you’re watching rugby and maybe explain what the heck is happening as it happens. I’m a little old cat laldy with strange taste in sports. Football? Fuggedaboudid. Golf gets my full attention.

Hockey ia fun to play too, We tried it with little success when we were kids, but I’ve seen pro hockey courtesy of a neigbor who worked as P.R. guy for Chicago team. That was a long time ago, but his explanations of the game are still in my head.

Soccer is the greatest sport in the world. Many people on this site are living in the past. There is nothing greater than a game between two soccer powers, whether it’s the World Cup or club games. I’ve been to several World Cups, since 1990 traveling the world. I will be going this year as well, although ticket prices are outrageous. I imagine prices will come way down on the secondary market when June rolls around.

My guess is that it's going to be cheaper if you're going to a game in cities like Kansas City or Dallas.

Dallas is not gouging for public transportation either.

We know it’s a windfall on sales taxes, hotel taxes, short term rental taxes, car rental taxes, and sin taxes (TABC alcohol is in top of sales tax PER DRINK. Tobacco taxes are also in top of sales taxes.

DFW is set to make half a billion or so in revenues extra in that month for a Stadium we already built. We have 9 games the most of any host in the whole Cup and we have the semi final match as well.

It’s gonna be LIT y’all.

You heard right we are closing sheets to let buses use them as staging areas. Extra trains a complementary shuttle service from the TRE station to the stadium and if needed more charter buses from two more feeder stations one in each metroplex hub. Plus a dedicated ride share lot with directed traffic to and from so lights won’t be a snarl. The local hotels have a trolley set up and dedicated drop and stage point near the stadium. Hotels further out all are not only running shuttles they are selling game day parking and shuttle rides in parkwiz and other parking apps. Every local biz in a two mile radius is also selling spots for walking on half a dozen apps as well.

BIG D got this.

Jerry will Jerry probably $150 in the far lots at Globe Life and $200 or more at Jerry world itself.

Pro tip book a spot walking distance now.

This is one of the better parking apps in DFW

https://www.parkwhiz.com/

Spothero and Parking.com are also selling spots now as well.

Look up DART is doing Gopass presales for game day TRE stations trips with charters shuttles to the Death Star for Center point and if needed from downtown D and Cowtown too with a dedicated managed lane down 30 each way.

Again Big D got dis.

They just renovated the Cotton Bowl, and it would be a much better location.
