NYC mayor touts ‘socialist’ wins in first 100 days alongside Bernie Sanders ("you eventually need a socialist to clean up the mess")

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani marked his first 100 days in office Sunday alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders, a democratic socialist, touting what he described as sweeping achievements driven by government intervention.

Mamdani cited key wins, including securing $1.2 billion for universal childcare, advancing plans for five publicly owned grocery stores, pursuing legal action against landlords and boosting investment in services such as sanitation and infrastructure.

In a reference to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her critique that socialists "eventually run out of other people’s money," Mamdani defended his administration’s approach.

"I have thought often of the Margaret Thatcher's quote, the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money," he said. "If anything, my friends, it seems that you eventually need a socialist to clean up the mess."

Sanders also praised the mayor’s agenda, calling it an inspiration for strengthening communities.

"This is the first time I was ever introduced by someone who talked proudly about democratic socialism," Sanders said. "And it feels great."

Mamdani highlighted additional policy priorities during his first three months in office.

To address rising food costs, he proposed opening five publicly owned, affordable grocery stores — one in each borough — by the end of his first term, a proposal critics say represents a departure from free-market principles. Critics say the plan departs from free-market principles. He added that the first location is expected to open next year.

NYC and NYS will go to Congress for a bailout.

A Deep State controlled Congress might give it to them, might override a Trump veto.

What then...?

So basically, the "wins" are that he is going to spend a lot of money and that he plans on building some grocery stores. Oh, and he is suing landlords. Nothing concrete, just that he's going to spend money and what he is going to do. He sounds like the drunk sitting on the bar stool telling whoever will listen all the big things he is going to accompish once he gets his ass of the bar stool.

If you think things are bad now, just wait until they are “affordable” or free...

For the sake of argument, say these are all good things.

Has anything new actually occurred? You would think "key wins" would mean appreciable improvements in New York residents' daily lives.

Has "universal childcare," presumably at no cost to the users, suddenly become available to everyone? Have five "publicly-owned" grocery stores opened? Has the "action against landlords" improved renters' conditions, increased the availability/lowered the price of housing for the multitudes? Are sanitation and infrastructure a lot better now?

If not, where are the actual "wins"?

> NYC and NYS will go to Congress for a bailout. <

It’s inevitable. And you can add Chicago and Illinois to that list.
Heck, add almost any city run by democrats.

Why would any Republican agree to a bailout? Probably as part of some deal. The cities get rewarded for their gross mismanagement. The Republicans get a handful of beans in return.

🙁

“Mamdani cited key wins, including securing $1.2 billion for universal childcare, advancing plans for five publicly owned grocery stores, pursuing legal action against landlords and boosting investment in services such as sanitation and infrastructure.”

So in other words he announced he is spending other people’s money with nothing to show for it. Every black and brown turd in his circle will make fortunes, do nothing, and once the city is bankrupt the whole rotten army of grifters vanishes back to wherever they were excreted.

In a socialist economy, you line up for bread at the store. In a capitalist economy, the store lines up the bread for you.

That's a good one (though I prefer NOT to use the commie term: 'capitalist'- just a minor quibble)

...but I laughed at yesterday's BB headline (paraphrasing)

Mamdummie announces the gov't store will be ready to open in 3 years, and advises people to get in line NOW!

Boy, I laughed pretty hard at that one.

He's delusional. And a liar.

Socialists create the mess.
