I tried to post this and it seems to have disappeared for no reason, nothing about it being deleted, etc., so, I'll try again!
Here’s the mystery:
I have tried asking web searches (Brave and Google) to identify a one piece fiberglass fishing rod I picked up at a yard sale a couple years ago. The model appears to be “151C”, followed by “5” and then illegible (likely refers to the rod’s length of 5’ 4-1/2”), then the brand (I assume) is “L” “illegible”, a tall letter, possibly a “d”, then(I think) an “e”, then “ll” (lower case “LL”), then on “o” or a “u”, then either a “u”* or a wide “n”. The reel seat / handle is detachable, with a cork grip @ the end.
This is just a fishing rod, not a combo rod ‘n reel.
No dice on the searches. MAYBE Picture It or Google Lens might have a chance? The "Fishing Talks" Forum I was a member of, “Fishing Talks”, is defunct, so, that’s out. (It had a lot of great old-timers on it.) Possibly I could try joining another forum. I do not have a good way to post my own pics on FR. What’s a good, no ads, non-intrusive & privacy oriented photo host these days? (FR is about the only place I’d ever need it — about once a year, maybe, outside of perhaps the Garden Threads!)
Best way to proceed?

Thanks in advance, BTW!
Are you sure that it is a fishing rod or maybe something else that is unintelligible?
The worst of our t-storms seem to have passed, so I’ll try to check back fairly often, as I lug about 2 hours worth of garden plants I dragged in, back to the garden, re-stake some, etc. (2” hail was approaching! Luckily for everybody(!) it weakened and went a bit south of us.)
Maybe the best way to investigate would be to find some mysterious fish first...
I have had great luck identifying items through Google Lens.
I just want to know more about it. I'm not a collector, but fishing is a bit of a hobby for me, as well as it puts food on the table.
The history is sometimes interesting too. How many people know that "Zebco", a major brand of fishing gear, came out of the "Zero Hour Bomb Company"?
From Brave Search:
Zebco inadvertently caused a security scare at the White House in 1956 when a package labeled "Zero Hour Bomb Company"—the company's original name—was sent to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. White House security officials, seeing the ominous name, submerged the package in water and summoned the bomb squad, fearing it was an explosive device. (This prompted the company to come up with a new name.)
I’d have to ask wifey - I don’t use a smart phone. They are too big for me to carry around and risk breaking, even with a good case (which makes it a bit bigger.)
OR, I see I can use Google Lens if I install Google Chrome on one of my computers. (I’d sort of forsworn it.)
Thx.
I’ll leave that to you.
:-)
Yeah, I think the whole story is on Zebco’s website. Sometimes truth IS stranger than fiction!
“They are too big for me to carry around and risk breaking, even with a good case (which makes it a bit bigger.)”
No excuse. Most construction workers carry smart phones on the job.
I forgot to note that the “L-—” could be a rod series name, similar to Shakespeare’s “Wonderod”.
They are different.
Try Sears Ted Williams 151c
I actually gave my dad a Popeil pocket fisherman when I was kid for Father’s Day. We laughed about it till the day he died.
Yeah, but they make good money and can afford to break their phones or pay insurance for such.
(I went BACK to a flip phone.)
Now, drop it, thank you, even if it is a bad pun - the subject is not cell phones and what phone has proven to work or not work for me.
Sears/ JC Higgins model 151C ?
