President Donald Trump flipped on his once close ally, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, on Tuesday in a phone interview with an Italian daily newspaper. Trump responded to Meloni’s recent criticism of his attack on Pope Leo XIV by accusing Meloni of being a changed person.
On Monday, Meloni called Trump’s multiple attacks on the Pope “unacceptable.”
“I find President Trump’s words toward the Holy Father unacceptable,” Meloni said in a statement. “The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, and it is right and normal that he calls for peace and condemns every form of war.”
Meloni was responding to Trump’s broadside against the Pope, calling “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.” The Pope has been a fierce critic of the war in Iran has used recent public appearances to call for peace.
“And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do, setting Record Low Numbers in Crime, and creating the Greatest Stock Market in History,” Trump also said of the Pope.
Following Meloni’s defense of the Pope, Trump turned his ire on her. Trump called his former ally “unacceptable,” repeating her words, and fumed that she is “no longer the same person.”
Trump made the comments to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, adding he was “shocked by her. I thought she was brave, but I was wrong.”
“It’s her who’s unacceptable, because she doesn’t care if Iran has a nuclear weapon and would blow up Italy in two minutes if it had the chance,” Trump added, repeating some of his attack on the Pope as well.
Meloni, a right-leaning populist in her own right, had begun distancing herself from Trump in recent weeks amid political setbacks domestically, which were linked in part to Trump’s rock-bottom approval in Italy.
“When we don’t agree, we must say it. And this time, we do not agree,” Meloni said earlier in the month, when pressed on the Iran war. Meloni had previously positioned herself as a link between Trump and the rest of the EU, especially when it came to combating Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and promoting a harder-line immigration policy.
He’s not like Bush. He’s more like Nixon. That didn’t end well either.
Reagan knew he couldn’t do it alone — nobody can — and that a little charm or tact can go a long way.
And no, lately he isn’t even playing two dimensional chess.
Horse manure. He was impeached twice in his first term, had everything thrown at him, even the kitchen sink to get rid of him, had two assassination attempts on his life. RATS are already saying that if they get the majority back, they're going to investigate everybody and everything. Do you really think President Trump cares what you, the RATS, the media, or any foreign leader thinks of him. I don't know why you think the President is doing anything on his own. He's got the support of the majority of middle-eastern countries on Iran. The Euroweenies are nobody. We had to save their asses twice. There won't be a third time. They need us far more than we've ever needed them.
LOL!! You have no clue what level chess he is playing, and neither do I, nor do I care. All I know is that the man never turned his back on his country or the people who voted for him, but plenty of those ingrates that voted for him, want him to be someone he was never going to be, so you'll just have to continue clutching your pearls over it.
Trump is fighting his own war against himself at times.
The only one who manages to hurt Trump at times... is Trump.
Meloni refused to allow this country to use Italy's air bases or air space. Spain did too. President Trump's comments today about Meloni were about her failure to support those base requests, and he also criticized her defense of the Pope. She attacked the President publicly first regarding his comments on the Pope. He has every right to call these people out on their failures as allies, and her for siding with a religious head who pushes open borders in this country, especially when he's surrounded by a wall. Immigration into this country isn't the Pope's business, nor is it Meloni's, but by coming to the Pope's defense on the issue, she's proven herself not to be an ally of this country after all.
Have ANY of those antagonized “allies” done jack shit for the USA?
As I stated before, on slightly different terms, yo wouldn’t know MAGA if it bit you in the Butt!
You’re a consistent, reliable NeverTrumping Troll!
I'm an old lady. Trump is a year older than me. I'll be 79 in August. I'm not the pleasant person I was in my younger days. I spent 25 years in uniform working in NY State's prison system. It changed my personality, and any patience I might have had. I don't take shit from anyone. I don't have to. I'm in my 23rd year of retirement, and I still have the same fighting spirit I had when I was working. I'm not going to change. I'm happy being a bitch.
Donald Trump has had a far more interesting life than me, and through the years, he's had to deal with a lot of different people, and it affected the way he does business, makes decisions, etc. Then he entered politics, ran for President as a Republican, and discovered just how much the RATS, the media and others hate his guts and want him dead. What he went through during his first term would have caused a normal person to quit. What he went through with all the lawsuits thrown at him, would have made a normal person walk away, and not even think of running for office again. But Trump's not normal. He's a fighter, and the older he gets (because I know it personally), the more he's going to fight back. He's not going to take any shit from anyone, and he doesn't have to. The more the criticism thrown his way, the more he'll kick back, because in the end, nobody else is going to defend him, so he has to do it himself.
None of us have walked in his shoes, gone through the crap thrown at him, especially since 2015, experienced assassination attempts, etc., so it makes no sense to try to change the man, or wish he'd act differently. It ain't going to happen.
Tell it Donald. Score one for the Good Guy.
It seems the site has tilted toward folks who are nefariously and purposely here to spew division, or others who are tanked that Trump is not doing things their way.
If we put together a list of what POTUS has done for this country, it would blow the mind of most who don't pay very close attention - we may know it all, but some of us forget. For me, he has done nothing, said nothing, nor taken any national or international actions that would change my mind that he is the right man at the right time...and probably by divine design.
Nicely argued.
First of all...thanks for your kind words.
Secondly, the people who regularly criticize President Trump all the time are malcontents, and ingrates, who will never be happy with anything he does, can't be grateful for what he has done, and have the need to complain about what he hasn't done.
I mentioned in my original comment that I worked in uniform for NY State for 25 years. You were never told when you did something right, but were always immediately told what you'd done wrong, or could have done better.
Thank you!!
That may have been true even 9 months ago but earlier this year the comments on housing prices, the Epstein bit and what appears to be business as usual and all I see and hear are younger people ready to sit it out-most of them absolutely done with politics as it has been
These guys listen to Rogan, Theo Von, Tucker Carlson and not buying the hype think they got conned

Oh us independents will most certainly enjoy the rest of his term. Till it ends with him in the insane asylum.
His little charade is starting to come to an end.
He and his little demonic witch he keeps close at hand are exposed.
All cults end in their destruction.
Go drink your kool-aid.
Oh us independents will most certainly enjoy the rest of his term. Till it ends with him in the insane asylum.

I’m an independent you swamp tool and you sure don’t speak for me.
And all cults do end in destruction.
Waiting for the Antichrist Papacy cult to end up in the lake of fire
Your mileage may vary
Bless your heart
Massie who is allied with the ultra liberal Ro Khanna is a fraud who need to be primaried.
Our social circle is full of friends with young adult children. Many supported Trump, NONE do now. Neither do a significant number of their parents.
Not sure what alternative universe they live in, but the redhat geriatrics here are truly delusional. They claim to be winning yet - unlike actual winners - are spitting mad and full of vitriol. They’re getting laughed at and smashed to bits on social media. Their last places of refuge are expiring legacy assets like Fox News, Free Republic and Snooze-Max.
America is not in a good place at the moment, but one silver lining is watching these petulant insufferables fade off into their sundown.
Sorry to say that unlike their greatest generation parents, they will not be missed or remembered kindly.
lmao...bump!
