Trump Flips On Former Key European Ally: ‘It’s Her Who’s Unacceptable’

President Donald Trump flipped on his once close ally, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, on Tuesday in a phone interview with an Italian daily newspaper. Trump responded to Meloni’s recent criticism of his attack on Pope Leo XIV by accusing Meloni of being a changed person.

On Monday, Meloni called Trump’s multiple attacks on the Pope “unacceptable.”

“I find President Trump’s words toward the Holy Father unacceptable,” Meloni said in a statement. “The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, and it is right and normal that he calls for peace and condemns every form of war.”

Meloni was responding to Trump’s broadside against the Pope, calling “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.” The Pope has been a fierce critic of the war in Iran has used recent public appearances to call for peace.

“And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do, setting Record Low Numbers in Crime, and creating the Greatest Stock Market in History,” Trump also said of the Pope.

Following Meloni’s defense of the Pope, Trump turned his ire on her. Trump called his former ally “unacceptable,” repeating her words, and fumed that she is “no longer the same person.”

Trump made the comments to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, adding he was “shocked by her. I thought she was brave, but I was wrong.”

“It’s her who’s unacceptable, because she doesn’t care if Iran has a nuclear weapon and would blow up Italy in two minutes if it had the chance,” Trump added, repeating some of his attack on the Pope as well.

Meloni, a right-leaning populist in her own right, had begun distancing herself from Trump in recent weeks amid political setbacks domestically, which were linked in part to Trump’s rock-bottom approval in Italy.

“When we don’t agree, we must say it. And this time, we do not agree,” Meloni said earlier in the month, when pressed on the Iran war. Meloni had previously positioned herself as a link between Trump and the rest of the EU, especially when it came to combating Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and promoting a harder-line immigration policy.

Voted for him three times but his childish touchiness and narcissism have become exhausting. He thinks the Cardinals in the conclave were thinking about him when they elected Leo? Attack Greene, attack Massie, attack Paul, attacker Candace, attack Tucker, attack Leo, attack Meloni ... keeps attacking his friends and base. Republicans are gonna get landslided in 26 and 28. God help us. Hope Massie gloats when he defeats Gallrein, a Never Trumper who left the Republican Party in 16-21 during Trump’s first campaign and term. Trump’s ads praising Gallrein all over Kentucky make me sick.

She flipped on Trump but really Trump doesn’t need to respond to everything a person says about him.

Someone needs to put a parental lock app on Trumps phone.

With the password: “12345”.

“So the combination is... one, two, three, four, five? That’s the stupidest combination I’ve ever heard in my life! That’s the kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!”

“1-2-3-4-5? That’s amazing. I’ve got the same combination on my luggage!”

Gen X and younger really like the Trump approach. We've seen where playing nice with people who hate us has gotten us.

If there's one person who should be telling Pope Leo to stay in his lane, it's Meloni.

When pope Frankie took it upon himself to support globalists by standing in Mexico at the border and attack President Trump for defending the U.S. border, the walls of the Vatican should be been dismantled.

I love Donald Trump but he needs to learn how to keep his mouth closed sometimes. He does not need to comment on every single F-ing thing

I agree! I agree with him about the Pope ( a muslim prayer room in the Vatican???) although what does it gain to bring it up right now? And the drawing of him resembling Jesus was just asking for trouble. I don't get it...he's a brilliant man who sometimes does stupid stuff.

I think back to the scene in Patton, when Omar Bradley tells him. “You are loyal, dedicated — you’re one of the best field commanders I’ve got — but you don’t know when to shut up, George! You’re a pain in the neck.”

Seditious conspirator Barrio Obama’s David Axelrod just had a meeting with the Pope.

That’s part of the reason for Trump commenting on the foreign head of state Pope.

“Unfortunately, Leo’s Weak on Crime, Weak on Nuclear Weapons, does not sit well with me, nor does the fact that he meets with Obama Sympathizers like David Axelrod, a LOSER from the Left, who is one of those who wanted churchgoers and clerics to be arrested. Leo should get his act together as Pope, use Common Sense, stop catering to the Radical Left, and focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician. It’s hurting him very badly and, more importantly, it’s hurting the Catholic Church! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

Is there any ally whom Trump has failed to antagonize?

These were never our allies. Trump just said what others refused to.

These people have been living off of part of $140 Trillion of our debt, while disparaging us at the same time.

He just has to have the last word like a kindergarten grumpy. The guy would never get elected again if he could run. Just built up too much baggage.

Churchill giving advice on politics once said “There is no need to stop and throw a stone at every dog that barks. You do that you won’t reach your destination!”.

“We’ve seen where playing nice with people who hate us has gotten us.”

We’re seeing where his lack of tongue discipline and perpetual aggrievement is getting us. Low approval ratings and loss after loss in special elections.

The pope is not a man of God in my opinion. Just a grotesque figurehead of a Satanic organization. Praise Jesus Christ.

Yeah, we've learned since 2016 not to trust "approval ratings".

And it's not his "tongue discipline and perpetual aggrievement".

What did she do to flip on Trump? She didn’t agree or want to get involved in a war. She did not like the Jesus tweet.

She runs her own country as Trump does. She is trying to be true to her constituents and sometimes that does not align with everything Trump chooses to do. Keep in mind, Italy is mostly Catholic.

I think the Pope should also shut up. But that is just me. He doesn’t need to chime in on politics.

Lose the “Satanist” Catholic voters and lose every election going forward.

I thought she was brave, but I was wrong

Euroweenies and bravery, truly a contradiction in terms.

Anyone who thinks Trump isn't qualified to assess bravery, has TDS whether it is latent in Stage 1 or terminal in Stage 4.

She flipped on Trump but really Trump doesn’t need to respond to everything a person says about him.

A key problem with Trump, and some of his supporters, is that if one doesn't fall in line, every time, then it's an attack.

An attack is physical, and disagreements do not mean that common ground can't be found.

I'm honestly thinking this is why Trump has such problems with some of his appointees. If one doesn't bow down and kiss the ring, they are tossed and attacked in return. It does become tiresome seeing the President act like a petulant child. Voted three times for the guy, and if had to re-do it over again, would still vote for him. But the guy does have issues with knowing when to STFU.
