According to a report in the Sport Business Journal, the Triple Crown schedule could be shaken up in 2027 as media rights to the Preakness go up for grabs after this year’s edition. The report indicates that the middle jewel of the Triple Crown “is set to make a historic shift to one week later in May,” three weeks after the Kentucky Derby.
However, Maryland Jockey Club president and general manager Bill Knauf denied the published SBJ report. He told The Blood-Horse: “We are in the middle of media rights negotiations and have yet to meet with two potential partners. It is unfortunate that the story was written that way so that people believe that everything is settled.”
The SBJ report states that “whether the Belmont Stakes — traditionally run three weeks after the Preakness — would also shift a week could depend on who wins the media rights to the Preakness.”

NBC and Fox are the two interested parties, but also are Netflix and Amazon, which brings back to the FCC's warning from 1975 how the per-subscriber PPV could take over and force everything to pay-per-view. It's what the Trump FCC is trying to redo media deals to take the studio services away from their ploy.
NBC has the Kentucky Derby to 2032 and the Breeders' Cup (the fourth major) but it's not published in this deal. Fox has the Belmont until 2030. The Preakness, an NBC event, expires this year.
Netflix and Amazon want to drive out broadcast television and force you to pay-per-view the events while pushing their X-rated shows (which is the major issue now because we know studios want to find way to promote their inappropriate shows).
Gives the horses a break? Good.

Secretariat, a pretty good racehorse, don’t know about time between races.
Have Amazon but don’t have Netflix, as a lifelong Louisvillan it would be horrible to have to pay a bunch more to watch the Derby.
Secretariat a pretty good racehorse? Now, that is the understatement of the decade.
