WASHINGTON — Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel revealed that his island nation is bracing for an attack from the US and declared that he is willing to die resisting President Trump.
Since last December, the US has imposed a blockade around Venezuela as part of its Operation Southern Spear effort, and used that to cut off oil supplies to Cuba, which has since plunged further into an energy crisis.
“I don’t think there would be any justification for the United States to launch a military aggression against Cuba, or for the US to undertake a surgical operation or the kidnapping of a president,” Díaz-Canel told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, per a translation.
“If that happens, there will be fighting, and there will be a struggle, and we will defend ourselves, and if we need to die, we’ll die, because as our national anthem says, ‘dying for the homeland is to live.’”
The Trump administration has privately signaled to Cuba’s communist government that Díaz-Canel must go, the New York Times reported.
Díaz-Canel, the first pol outside the Castro family to lead the island nation since the Cuban Revolution, has refused to step aside.
“I have no fear. I am willing to give my life for the revolution,” he claimed. “I wouldn’t like that to be the attitude of the US government.”
Cuba has endured an increase in blackouts in recent weeks as concerns flare that its food supplies are running dangerously low. Experts have noted that many of those issues predated the blockade, but have acknowledged that it has gotten worse since the US cut off crude exports to Cuba.

We have no right to invade Cuba or to blockade them from rom oil or anything.
To die for Christ is to live.
Communists are always trying to be God.
Dont think about it as a “problem”, think about it as an opportunity.
leave it up to the people of cuba.
if they want the commies ousted, they will have to do it.
we can support... but the people have to start it.
and if we need to die, we’ll die,
Sounds like a plan.
Why not?
They are evil communists oppressors, they ruined Cuba.
Cuba desires to be liberated!
You first.
He’ll be standing mostly alone. Nobody likes being dictated
I would like to see a tourist invasion.
Send a army of new Yorkers and Canadians in first.
Call it the snow bird army.
They can get the resorts up and running for the rest of us.
Take some heat off Florida.
Well,I guess the Cuban government could clean up their act & stay alive, but that would take awhile before their citizens would actually believe it had happened & who hows how long to get things straightened around in Cuba before it even looked real.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel is mighty free with the we word.
Until the counting starts
The CIA needs to get going, make the leadership weak and infiltrate their armies to get them to give up.
“In 10 years we could turn that country around.”
I would love to see Cuba liberated and I believe that investors would pour billions into the country if it were.
👍
My best friend and I were just discussing the possibility of soon being able to take the hubbies and fly down to Havana for a nice 3 day vacay to the casinos.
When I was a kid in Jacksonville my best friends parents used to fly to Havana once in awhile for the weekend and she would stay at my house.
How many Cuban American construction workers do we have here? Spanish speakers? More importantly unmarried ones? Flood the country with these guys and watch not just a lot of buildings popup.
I recall that the Cuban military driving Fidel’s ashes to the cemetery had their Russian Jeep breakdown on the way. Cuba’s supposedly elite troops guarding Maduro were decimated in minutes by US forces. If this is indicative of Cuban military prowess a US invasion wouldn’t take long.
“Flood the country with these guys and watch not just a lot of buildings popup.”
I dated a Cuban woman one time. She came over in the early 90s legally. She spent several months in Guantanamo waiting for permission. I met her cousin, also an immigrant and an electrician. He said he had just paid off his $300000 house and was going to buy another to rent out. He seemed very motivated and a good guy. I think Cubans generally are good people, but I would prefer they live in Cuba. That’s not a very popular opinion on FR apparently.
Nope. We agreed with the Soviets not to invade. We got Latin America on our side and there’s no need to go back to being unpopular gringos.
Will there be popular uprisings in Iran/Cuba? Let’s hope but not count on it.
Thank you for that link!
