A viral TikTok video is sparking widespread mockery after a user declared that maintaining a nice, manicured grass lawn is “racist” and “based in white supremacy.” The clip, posted earlier this week by TikTok user @softchaoschannel (who goes by JustJaim and uses she/they pronouns), opens with the bold claim, “I can’t stop thinking about how grass lawns are racist and like, based in white supremacy.”
She continued, “If that doesn’t make sense, that’s okay, I guess. It seems really obvious to me. It’s really upsetting. Bring back weeds, bring back clover yards. Can anything just be okay in its natural state, or do we just have to whitewash everything, make it a competition and use it as a sign of your worth as a human being in society? Like, can we just have weeds?”
The activist frames perfectly kept lawns as symbols of “control,” “dominating nature,” and a “uniform, colonial aesthetic,” tying them to broader accusations of systemic racism and suggesting that letting yards grow wild with weeds is the more enlightened choice.
The video quickly spread across platforms, including X, where it was amplified by accounts like Libs of TikTok and drew immediate ridicule.
Commenters fired back with lines such as “I’ve never heard my lawn say an unkind word about anyone” and “This lady is just venting ‘cause she got a letter from her HOA.”
This latest theory is not entirely new, as the Post Millennial pointed out.
A 2020 Sierra Club article noted that young people on TikTok and other platforms were already sharing “anti-lawn memes” that criticized grass yards for lacking biodiversity, requiring excessive water and chemicals, and allegedly symbolizing “racial exclusion” through historical HOA rules that once barred sales to people of color.
In the grand tradition of progressive activism finding racism in the most ordinary corners of daily life, this claim fits right in.

My liberal neighbors across the street attempted to turn their back yard into a mini Callaway gardens but it went horribly wrong.....instead it turned into the Munsters front yard.
Jeez. Some people like to care for their lawns, plant flowers, etc., because it’s simply FUN for them.
Young people today are becoming insanely puritanical while believing they’re the gold standard of Tolerance.
And they don’t even realize it.
Yeah we’re blessed here in that respect.
No permitting necessary and 30 to 40 feet and your in water.....only drawback is iron in the water.....just gotta be careful to keep it off the house.

“White” isn’t a color issue. It’s a state-of-mind issue. “Racist” is the pejorative they use to deflect attention from that notion.
Folks (anyone!) that want to strive to have and keep nice things for themselves and their family? That’s a “white” thing. That’s “racist.” That’s bad. Don’t be “white.”

We’re talking about a younger generation that lives a lot of their lives in the digital world, orders food delivery with a cell phone and wear pajamas out in public as if it’s a normal thing.
I imagine to them lawn care is about as foreign as brain surgery.
I give thanks on a regular basis that I lived the majority of my before the digital age back when drivein movies, pinball machine arcades and roller rinks were the norm for kids.
Notice one thing those all have in common......face to face interaction with other human beings....something that’s terribly lacking in today’s society.
So make the suburbs look like the inner city. This embodies an element of socialism in that the individual wants to reduce the environment to the lowest common denominator for all, so that the stewards of the crap can fool themselves into thinking that their diseased places of residence are normal.

Plus, I am no longer living in Ga. House District 14. Yet I still have many of the North West Ga. Values. When living in a partly desert environment, it is better to conserve water. Perhaps V-Twin could visit a Priest and get an Exorcism.

One other possibility is that the complainer believes that blacks are too stupid to figure out how to maintain their lawns and they cannot access the internet to watch lawn maintenance videos to learn. Kinda like IDs for voting. But the soft bigotry of low expectations is strong in this one.

I don’t know about ‘soft’ bigotry. It seems pretty hard and obvious to me. But then, these lefties have always pretended to care about minorities and pandered to them accordingly. Perhaps they are so stupid... that they think that most blacks will approve of their false assumptions.
Truth is, they are only catering to the very lowest dregs of society... criminals, thugs, drug addicts, insane homeless, etc.... ie not just blacks... with their racist BS. If I were a black person, I’d be highly insulted by them and their asinine rhetoric. How the hell it is that most blacks still vote Democrat is a mystery to me, still.

We had a very nice Black man come to our house every Saturday to cut our lawn, do other stuff around the house. My dad drove down to the station to pick him up.
We hired him to help with some formal party at out house one evening. He also had a great singing voice and sang while my mom played the piano. Afterwards my dad drove him home to South side of Chicago. They would have been held up and probably murdered today.
And how many Black men in South Chicago support a nice family now? So sad. I think of him often and pray that his kids did well in life.
One lawn was a sea of yellow flowers , over 24 hrs they had all turned to the white seed heads. A time lapse of that would have been interesting .
Dandelions can actually help compacted soil. They have sturdy roots and those roots break up the soil allowing oxygen and nutrients to get to it. Still don't like em, but I like them a little more than I used to. My property is rocks and sand. New Mexico is not rich with water. What I do use goes to my giant pine trees.
