US, Iran fail to reach peace agreement after marathon talks in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Vice President JD Vance said the US and Iran failed to strike a peace deal to end the six-week war rocking the Middle East, blaming Tehran’s refusal to give up its nuclear ambitions — leaving uncertainty over whether fighting will resume.

Vance delivered the quick-hit update after 21 hours of grueling negotiations in Pakistan, noting meaningful discussions were held with Iran but none that brokered a deal on terms laid out by the US.

“The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement,” Vance told reporters in Islamabad.

“And I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America. They have chosen not to accept our terms. So we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement.”

He said a major sticking point was Iran’s refusal to agree to not develop a nuclear weapon or even seeking the tools to build one, insisting the US needed an “affirmative commitment” on the issue.

If I had my way, bombing would resume as soon as VP Vance was back on American soil.

Thankfully the “negotiations” were quickly concluded and we can focus on the solution phase (i.e., cutting off Iran’s revenue, destroying what’s left of its offensive capabilities, and continuing to systematically eliminate its leadership).

That said, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Iranians offer to come back to the table again in an effort to stall the oncoming attacks. They love to play games.

Yep, no need for anymore threats and posturing. Time to finish this and show the world our resolve. The world respects winners.

Even if any of them were realistic or there in good faith, it never would go anywhere.

The extremist in Iran have threatened to kill anyone who negotiates with the USA. One upper level guy in their legislature is facing criminal charges for suggesting negotiations.

We have to kill many more and absolutely break their will.

Need an air blockade too. China is purportedly sending missiles by plane.

There is an interesting perspective floating around. Like this:

Countries with nuclear weapons don’t get pushed around.

If they have embraced this, it makes sense.

Why should they give in, they know the US and any allies we might get on board WILL NOT completely eradicate the muzzie threat, it's just not possible.

The longer they hold out, the better chance they have of surviving and greater likelyhood that the US will run out of positive public opinion. On top of which, eventually the US will foot a large portion of the bill for rebuilding in the future.

Why do they keep calling it a peace deal? Its a surrender deal.

There's NO uncertainty in my mind that the bombing will continue as soon as the agreed-to ceasefire is over.

Back in 2002 Bush II talked about an “axis of evil”: Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. Then Bush invaded Iraq.

Can’t really blame the other two if they thought maybe they’d be next.
