Can Europe save itself without the US?
American Thinker ^ | 5 Apr, 2026 | Susan Quinn

The problems with defense of Europe are complex. Europe not wanting to defend itself is only one of them.

Europe has been taking a lot of flak in the last two months in the midst of the Iran War, raising the question of whether its members are capable of or interested in militarily defending themselves.

An example is a serious conflict that arose recently when President Trump asked the Europeans to help the U.S. open the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait has been mostly closed to traffic by the Iranians, and Trump insists that the waterway should be an open and free passageway. Iran disagrees and wants sovereignty over it. The U.S. doesn’t access the Strait very often, but Europe does. Unfortunately, European states refuse to engage their militaries to keep the Strait open. To make matters worse, those countries where U.S. bases are established won’t allow the U.S. to use their territory or air bases. And Trump is furious at the European countries for their lack of cooperation:

The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!

The fact that Iran has developed missiles that can reach the far reaches of Europe should be especially concerning. But Europe has stood firm. Although much has been said about the spike in oil prices due to the Strait’s near shutdown, prime minister of the U.K. Keir Starmer insists he won’t get into the fight and that the nation will simply need to bear the escalating prices. He believes that diplomacy is the best way to resolve these issues.

The problems with defense of Europe are complex. Only a few nations, primarily France, actually have a military industrial complex.

If they repent and turn to God, yes. If not, no.

No. They are doomed to a third world life listening to gawdawful voices on speakers whilst watching Muzzies rape their children.

Of course it can.

If it has the will.

“If it has the will.”

I think the genetics that carried the “will” was wiped out in WWI.

Sure they can. It’s just going to cost a whole lot of their own money. Maybe it will take 1 million dead Europeans before they learn but it’s a price I’m willing to pay.

There will be ethnic cleansing.

Do it soon, and Europe will have no Muslims.
Delay too long, and Europe will have no Europeans.

Europe has 2 problems that are existential. First it has a 5th column of Muslim and African invaders its elites have seen fit to allow to wander in - unvetted - and then lavish with taxpayer money over the last generation especially. These are savages who are unassimilated and unassimilable. They are at best parasites and at worst, actual enemies. They must be driven out.

Secondly, the Cult of Gaia has engaged in arguably the single biggest act of self sabotage in history. Affordable energy is the cornerstone of a modern industrial economy. In most of Europe, the Gaia Worshipers have destroyed this. They have thus wrecked Europe's industrial production, its chemicals industry, and they're working hard to destroy its agriculture too. They have made Europe extremely dependent on outside sources despite Europe having an abundance of coal and the technology to - like France - power itself with nuclear energy.

Only once these two problems are overcome can European countries even think about rebuilding credible military forces and the will to use them if necessary. These are all questions of will. Can the Western Europeans especially develop the will necessary to save themselves? All available evidence says no.

Of course it can. If it has the will.

It all comes down to that. I see a few in Western Europe who actually have some pride in their own countries and some self respect for the Western Civilization they inherited from their ancestors. Unfortunately, its nowhere near enough of them. America has the same sickness Western Europe does but in America there are enough people who love the country and still have enough self respect to reject the Globalists and the Gaia Worshipers. Sadly, I just don't see enough people like that to get things turned around on the other side of the Atlantic.

Europe is already lost, and what the USA does or does not do cannot change that.

Its Deep State still fears the citizenry.

As long as that’s still the case, all is not lost.

Europe cannot save itself while governed by socialist central planners in Brussels, radical feminism, beta-male bureaucracy, globalist elites, and self-loathing toward its Christian heritage. Low fertility rates guarantees shrinking native populations, aging societies, and collapsing workforces. Central planners offer welfare tweaks and mass third world immigration instead of restoring family formation. The result is cultural erosion and long-term decline. Sad. America needs to pivot to new global alliances with healthier people.

The Euroweenies could get Ukraine to supply drones and operators and place the drones on anchored rafts in the Strait. Ukraine needs EU cash.

Iranian speedboats could be taken out like Russian tanks are.

GROKIPEDIA

The Rheinmetall Sea Snake 30 mm is a remote-controlled, semi-automatic, and stabilized close-in weapon system (CIWS) designed by Rheinmetall for naval self-defense, featuring a 30 mm x 173 KCE-30/ABM revolver cannon mounted on a compact, low-signature platform suitable for integration on patrol boats, corvettes, frigates, and other vessels. It supports high-precision engagement of air targets and asymmetric overwater threats, including swarming drones, through a maximum rate of fire of 1,100 rounds per minute and compatibility with air burst munitions (ABM) for optimized hit probability.

The Rheinmetall Sea Snake 30 mm features an optional integrated or detachable electro-optical (E/O) sensor unit mounted on a stabilized pan-and-tilt platform, which operates independently of the weapon for enhanced flexibility in detection and tracking. This unit incorporates two laser rangefinders—a 1.5-micrometer diode laser with a range of at least 10 km and an eye-safe Er:Glass laser extending to 40 km—along with three daylight cameras offering fields of view from 1.4° to 32° for wide-area surveillance and precise targeting, and a cooled mid-wave infrared (MWIR) thermal imager with fields of view of 1.4° and 6.67° for day/night operations. The sensors support identification, detection, and recognition ranges up to 25 km, enabling effective engagement of aerial and surface threats in maritime environments.

I’m not sure if they are ready to go into battle.

Europe needs oil.

Defense against torpedoes is another matter.

An old tanker sailed in parallel to the north of a valuable tanker would provide protection to that valuable tanker.
