ADAMS COUNTY, Ohio -- The Grammy-nominated rapper Afroman won a defamation lawsuit filed by seven Ohio sheriff's deputies who sued him over music videos in which he used home security footage to mock their raid of his home.
"We did it, America! Yeah, we did it! Freedom of speech! Right on! Right on!" the 51-year-old rapper, born Joseph Foreman, shouted outside the courthouse after the Wednesday evening verdict. He later posted the clip to social media.
The case tested the limits of parody and the license artists can take in social commentary directed at public figures. The deputies, collectively, sought nearly $4 million in damages.
"No reasonable person would expect a police officer not to be criticized. They've been called names before," defense lawyer David Osborne said in closing arguments for the rapper and comedian, known for his breakout 2000 hit, "Because I Got High."
The Adams County deputies said they were publicly harassed over the viral videos, which were viewed more than 3 million times on YouTube. The videos show rifle-wielding deputies busting down Afroman's door, searching his shoes and suit pockets, and hungrily eyeing a cake on the kitchen table, inspiring one song's title, "Lemon Pound Cake."
In other music videos, Afroman took aim at the deputies' personal lives and called them "crooked cops" because of $400 that went missing in the raid.
"Police officers shouldn't be stealing civilians' money," the rapper testified this week. "This whole thing is an outrage."
In court - wearing a red, white and blue American flag suit - he defended his work on First Amendment grounds and said he issued the diss tracks to cover damages from the raid, including a broken gate and front door.

I got to hang out with him and his family at Malala Oregon. (A music gig) Funny guy and a very caring family man. It was insane what the cops did to him.
Had the swine done their homework, they would not have raided the house. They had no business being there and the ridicule is wholly justified.
Yes. Had there been no cameras in his house the cops would have just lied their arses off. It’s all right there on video. And even after that the cops sued him. I can only imagine how much he spent defending himself. If there was justice the cops would have to pay for his defense. This was years of harassment. All from some junkie who didn’t even know him saying he had sex slaves and drugs in his home.
Always remember. Cops are government employees to enforce government rules. I am not a back the blue kind of guy as I despise government in all its forms thanks to how the government treated me and hard working citizens. Sure there are some good cops out there but I still want nothing to do with them so keep my nose clean, don’t speed, and keep a low profile.

There was no reason to break anything. Just show up, knock on the door, tell them you have a warrant to search the place and do so in a polite and professional manner.
Don't break anything, don't scare the kids, don't make a mess and don't steal stuff.
Is that too high a standard to hold the police to?
Not at all. That is how it SHOULD have happened. Instead the swine raided the house, guns drawn. They earned every bit of ridicule.

And there is no law, no matter how trivial, no matter how nonsensical, that the police will not murder you to enforce.

Now, if I was a dirty ass pig cop who raided his house under false pretenses, destroyed his property and stole from him, I would have earned every ounce of ridicule I received.
I couldn't care less what happens in that thug, sub culture since they have no positive influence on society.

I believe one come to that conclusion. She was trying to work off a drug charge [arrest]. You can bet the farm that she was doing what they said she had to do [naming names, making up “information”, committing other acts]. One thing I do know: The Deputy who Afro Man’s lawyer asked the question, to the effect of “is/or has your wife been untrue?” and he answered, “I don’t know.” His wife better get away from him pronto. If she values her life.
