A stubborn patient has refused to leave her Florida hospital room even though she was discharged by doctors five months ago, a lawsuit alleges.
Charlotte Paynter has allegedly been unlawfully occupying Room 373 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital since October, according to a civil lawsuit filed by the hospital on March 3.
Paynter, 69, was admitted to the medical facility for treatment for an undisclosed condition last year, the hospital said in the complaint obtained by the Daily Mail.
Doctors issued a formal discharge order on October 6 after it was determined that she no longer needed acute care services, the filing said.
Paynter has allegedly 'refused to vacate' her hospital room even though medical staff have made 'repeated efforts' to help her 'safely complete discharge.'
The complaint does not say when Paynter was first admitted to the facility, but notes the hospital provided her with a written order to vacate on November 24.
Tallahassee Memorial claimed in the complaint that resources have been diverted from helping other patients because of her continued occupation of the room.
The hospital has now asked a state judge in Tallahassee for an injunction ordering the patient to vacate the hospital room and authorizing the county sheriff's office to assist if necessary.

There, fixed it
Our tax dollars are paying for their hospital stay, so they’ll milk it for as long as they can.
As Devil’s advocate, I ask......Where is she to go? Where did she come from?
If the expense total for minimum care in the hospital is =< expense to taxpayers providing welfare, Staying is to the state a win option.
For the state, alas, there is no good option
Those beds have wheels....
Lazyitis.
The hospital needs to buy a taser... and use it.
Doubtful this is a case of mental instability. Just a simple case of “I got me a comfy bed and three meals a day so I ain’t moving.
“”””If they allow her to get away with this you think she’ll be the last?””””
And she may not be the first one who has refused to be discharged from the Tallahassee hospital.
For all we know, this could be a regular incident at the hospital.
She only made the news by refusing to leave for months.
When a welfare recipient is admitted to the hospital, her welfare benefits are not automatically discontinued.
This woman is probably a double-dipper (at least) - probably receiving welfare benefits, food stamps, etc. - in addition to occupying a hospital bed in spite of having been officially discharged.
The hospital should repurpose her room as a morgue and start stacking the cadavers.
Regards,
I read stories like this and think: “What would they have done in my grandparents time?”
3 big burly orderlies would have walked in there, grabbed her ass, and dragged her right out those doors and set her on the curb.
No lawsuits, no criminal charges, hell the cops would have held the door open for them. People wouldn’t have even tried anything like this that back then knowing what would happen to them.
Now we have lawyers just itching to make their 1/3 plus expenses and this is what we are left with.
Psych evaluation, 72 hours. That’s an instant transfer to elsewhere. She’ll want to leave that.
Interesting.
Some years ago when my wife was in Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, the nurses disclosed to me that the hospital was plagued with the local homeless residents who would check themselves into the hospital and stay for a few days just to get a clean bed, shower, and free food. Apparently, there was complacency going on by hospital staff who were not willing to effectively screen these walk-in and prevent them from taking advantage of the system. It reminds me of the politician the other day who had the audacity to defend shoplifting as an acceptable means for scofflaws to sustain themselves. This accepting attitude across the board of allowing the abuse of institutions within a society erodes and degrades it to third world status. Unfortunately, we see it taking place in liberal hell holes all around us.
TMH might as well be in Mogadishu or Nairobi….
This is more common than one would think.
The hospital has joined the fatigued movement. Stop feeding her. She’ll have to leave to go feed herself.
““I got me a comfy bed and three meals a day so I ain’t moving.”
Then quit feeding her fat ass!
She’s staying for the haute cuisine!
Move her “free bed” to the county jail.
