Top E.U. Diplomat on Middle East Conflict: ‘This Is Not Europe’s War’
Breitbart ^

Posted on 03/17/2026 8:31:30 AM PDT by Tench_Coxe

The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said during a Monday press conference the ongoing war in Iran is “not Europe’s war,” but noted Europe’s interests are “directly at stake” as the conflict widens.

“This is not Europe’s war, but Europe’s interests are directly at stake. As this war expands, the EU’s priority remains the protection of our citizens,” Kallas told reporters after a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Brussels.

Asked by reporters on Monday on Trump’s remarks and if she thinks that the war in Iran is going to be more linked to Ukraine and NATO, Kallas said, “all these security theaters are very much interlinked when it comes to the capabilities that are needed in Ukraine or in the Middle East, when it comes to also our attention.”

“That is very, very clear,” she emphasized. “And the actors or our adversaries are also using this. So, this is very, very clear. Now, it is in our interest to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and that is why we are also discussing what we can do in this regard, from the European side.”

So the Strait of Hormuz staying open is in their interests, but aren't willing to do anything.

I get why they don't consider it their war, and wouldn't expect them to join in on Iran: they didn't attack, and countries like France have worry about a 10% Muslim population.

But there is something off putting about it: " Go ahead, USA, expend resources to keep it open for us. We'll sit back and do nothing and then get back to lecturing you and trying to embroil you into a war with Russia for us once we're fat and happy again"

I wouldn’t want them involved. They cannot be trusted with the necessary intelligence briefings and planning. Don’t bring weasels into the hen house.

Or we can deny them the use of the strait.

Ha Ha - Trump has them by the balls

The USA (and Israel) do not use Persian Gulf oil and gas - but the EU and China do!

OK, so keep it closed. Let’s see how long the neo-marxists in Brussels and London last.

Hey guess what. The Ukraine is not America’s war.

Syria, Iraq, and the middle east were your pipeline wars. It wasn’t necessary for the US. But we guarded and spent blood and treasure to keep you in energy.

Now go pound sand.

The US should just take over that Kharg island and sell the oil ourselves.

Price based on the level of cooperation in the operation.

Correct. Every American should be keeping tabs on our so-called allies and remember the blood and treasure that we spilled in the past for them. Don't vacation there, don't inject your money into their economies and for sure, demand we reject their requests for help in the future.

Screw them. They are WAY more dependent on the oil that comes through the strait than we are. If they don’t want to contribute to providing safe passage, then we should just apply a steep toll to the tankers for protection.

This is not Europe's war

That's right. Europe is already lost to Islam.

If not for many other right reasons, but for the oil alone, it is Europe’s war and Southeast Asia’a war, as they are both energy dependent on the Middle East for oil.

But no worries, Europe, the U.S. will again save you from yourselves, as a consequence of our necessary actions to end the regime of the Mullahs of Tehran.

I support this war in Iran but my support for the war in Ukraine compels me to ask: what the hell did you think the Europeans would do after we insulted them, threatened to renege on our obligations to NATO to defend, reneged on our commitments to supply Ukraine, thus leaving Europe exposed to the Russian threat?

For years, members of NATO have behaved precisely the way we in the US wanted the Europeans to behave; they let us run the show, and we consciously but in reality demanded little of them. So they naturally acted in their own self interest and saved their money for domestic concerns like universal healthcare.

We got what we wanted and paid for, they got what they wanted- Until Ukraine. Are we now to be surprised that the Europeans have reacted from a long-nurtured resentment inflicted upon them since our president broke ranks with them and gratuitously insulted them?

No politician in Europe can show himself now to be helping Trump and expect to be applauded at home. Much of this is a price we are paying for arrogance and boorishness.

However this war ends, American support for NATO has greatly eroded. Suspect Trump will, despite the howling of the neo con globalists, withdraw much of the American military from Europe. Goodbye and good luck.

... thus leaving Europe exposed to the Russian threat?

I suspect many (maybe most) Europeans don't think Russia is much of a threat at all.

Then what the hell was Obama doing bombing Libya at the bequest of England and France to protect their interests there. Having to shoulder the Bosnia conflict at Europe’s bequest when we had zero interests there. Bombing Serbia at their request without interests there, ad nauseum.
