What, Exactly, Does The Federal Government Do? The World May Never Know

In just the first five months of the new fiscal year, the federal government has already spent more than $3 trillion – more than it spent in all of 2009 – $1 trillion of which it had to borrow.

And what is all this money going toward? The federal government was told 15 years ago to take a full, annual inventory of everything it does. It’s never been able to get that done.

“Each year, the federal government spends trillions of dollars on federal programs that support the American people and address policy goals,” notes the Government Accountability Office in a report released earlier this month. “However, it does not have a full inventory of these programs.”

That’s despite the fact that it’s been required to do so since 2011.

That law, signed by Barack Obama that January, requires a single, comprehensive list of federal programs that’s supposed to be posted on a website.

But of the 20 requirements contained in the law – for things such as identifying each program, listing program activities, whether they contribute to an agency’s mission and goals, and how much money went to management – the current inventory met only seven in 2025.

As the GAO correctly put it:

A comprehensive listing of programs, along with related funding and performance information, would help federal decision-makers and the public better understand what the government does, what it spends, and what it achieves each year.

Without a complete inventory, decision-makers lack a critical tool to help them better identify and manage fragmentation, overlap, and duplication across the federal government.

Sounds reasonable. For 15 years, the GAO has prodded and cajoled the federal government, but to no avail.

“That’s not merely a sad commentary on the sprawling size and eye-watering cost of the government. It’s also a violation of federal law,” notes Eric Boehm, a reporter at Reason magazine.

Sure, we know the broad contours of what the government does. We know how much money is spent and how much of it goes into each department. We have some idea of how much is lost to fraud. We occasionally learn about some whacked-out program. But there’s no single place that lists program the federal government operates.

An annual inventory – one that is easily accessible to the public online – would make it easy for regular citizens to find out how much is lost to waste and duplication, how many projects aren’t on mission, or are at cross-purposes, much is being spent on management. You know, useful information like that.

But not only is there little interest in conducting a complete inventory of the federal government. There’s open hostility – which we saw with the attacks from Washington insiders against DOGE’s work.

The denizens of the swamp don’t want transparency. They want the water to be murky. Because that’s the only way they can keep their pet projects going.

The biggest thing that the US Government does is take money from people who work for a living and give it to people who don’t work for a living.

Everything else the US Government does is small by comparison.

Actually, if you consider the interest payment on the debt that is essentially caused by the ‘Great Society’ LBJ brought in, you are 100% irrefutably correct.

At this point the US dollar and Fed.gov debt is purely a confidence game

there is no hope of repaying the $40 Trillion of US debt - at anything close to pesent value.

Fed.gov effectively funds the bureaucratic and political entities that have enough political power to force their way to the trough

Most contradictory of all, Fed.gov printed money and debt funds radical marxists in government, academia, NGOs, welfare, etc... who will destroy the productive ability of the USA.

It's not about knowing everything it does. What it "does" is irrelevant. Follow the damned money being paid out from the Treasury. It's all clever and innovative financing and money transferring to make it easy for thieves, line pockets, cover campaign expenses and buy favors and votes. Has no one paid attention to Minneapolis?

Spot on. Productive people become independent and prosperous and don’t need to rely on bloated government programs and largesse. Consequently they are viewed by Marxists as an obstruction to their relentless drive for absolute power and control over people.

The federal government spends money on a variety of goods, programs, and services that support the economy and people of the United States. The federal government also spends money on the interest it has incurred on outstanding federal debt. Consequently, as the debt grows, the spending on interest expense also generally grows.

If the government spends more than it collects in revenue, then there is a budget deficit. If the government spends less than it collects in revenue, there is a budget surplus. According to the Constitution’s Preamble, the purpose of the federal government is “…to establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” These goals are achieved through government spending.

How much is lost to the fraud in DELOITTE IES Integrated Eligibility system? How much is the Deloitte part of the fraud? How much is the Fraud by others that is enabled by Deloitte IES?

How much is lost by the DEAD in the Deloitte IES system?
How much is lost by the DUPs in the Deloitte IES system?
How much in Red states in the IES system? By GA? FL? TX? etc
How much is lost in Blue states by IES? MA? NY? PA? VA? IL? CO? CA?
In the 90-10 formula, how much is lost by states? How much by HHS? By Dept of AG?
How much by SNAP/EBT? WIC? Medicaid? CHPS? TANF? Sec8? Other?
How much FRAUD is in other systems that receive the fraudulent IES Data? By Gainwell Technologies? By Accenture? By Humana? By Aetna, By BCBS? Elevance? Molina? United Health Care, etc?

We have some idea???? NO! You and I don’t have any idea, not even in just one example of Waste, Fraud, Abuse due to Deloitte IES Fraud.

aka the SWAMP. HHS spends the most money due to Medicare & Medicaid and grants. There is far more FRAUD in distribution of the money than in the recipients intended by Congress.

Deloitte IES is an example.
