It’s hard to trust the official version. This could be a situation like that in 2003, when we went looking for a war and crafted the intelligence and the negotiations to give us the result the government wanted.
I certainly wouldn't dismiss that possibility. All the more reason for this administration in particular to have its feet held to the fire when conducting military operations on the basis of "intelligence community" assessments.
