We all have a life interest in a frank discussion of issues regarding the likelihood that Iran will get nuked.
There is traction to be gained from learning about ancient Israel's singlemindedness during their ancestors' self-sacrifice at Masada, especially considering that if Israel nukes Iran … "that might not quite be the last word in the story."
This is to say, that Israel's present-day singlemindedness in eliminating Iran, might have some characteristics similar to the history of Masada.
This is because credible commentators have predicted that Iran may be announcing that they are nuclear weapon equipped within a matter of weeks.
And they have the capacity now to turn the Dimona nuclear site in the Negev desert into "Chernobyl II".
The Iranians, both leadership and members of their highly educated public, might be presumed to have thought all this over.
Nuclear Armageddonism seems to be characteristic of those two nations, as well as Russia.
Claims that any unauthorized mention of Israel is automatically "antisemitism", are trumped by our right to continue to exist without fear of nuclear annihilation.
I am indifferent to "antisemitism" criticisms. I am Irish-American. It is credibly asserted that 11 million of my ancestors were ethnically cleansed by "a nearby nation that I need not name".
When the potato famine took millions of Irish lives, there were bumper harvests in Ireland of export crops guarded by the soldiery of that nearby foreign nation, to keep us from getting any.
An official of that nearby, unspecified foreign nation, Nassau William Senior (1790–1864), remarked that the famine would not "kill more than one million people, and that would scarcely be enough to do much good."
(The same thing happened to the Germans after World War II, when Joseph Cardinal Frings told them to raid American railcars chock full of food during the "Hungerjahr", the Hunger Year 1948, when indications are that they were subject to a deliberate policy of starvation instigated by FDR's Secretary of the Treasury, Henry Morgenthau Jr.)
What has any of this to do with Iran being nuked? Existential threats to one or another people's right to exist—or such threat to all of our right to exist.
When Bacon's Rebellion 1676-1677 started dividing Irish slaves from African, the forgotten premise of the incident which is deflected because Virginia colonist Nathaniel Bacon wanted Native Americans excluded—thus making any discussion of the issue, automatic "racism"—doesn't detract from the fact that there was a substantial population of Irish, Scots Irish and English "indentured servants", whose legal status can't be explained away because there were some documents involving the term "indentured"—they were slaves.
When Palestinian terrorists attacked the Israeli Olympic Team in 1972, I was in the process of trying to become Jewish, but my girlfriend and prospective fiancé pushed me off in her grief, telling me, "You're not Jewish". ("I am too", I naively responded.)
I am indifferent to any charge of antisemitism, when my whole world's survival in the face of nuclear war is at issue.
The cost in blood, of my ancestors and those of people of many other ethnicities, gives us the right to talk about these issues.
The most classic form of deflection is to try to stop people from discussing important issues, by accusing them of some imaginary wrongdoing, simply by thinking and discussing the issue.
We can still talk about this.

Irish Slaves in Georgia circa 1860
Judging by the clothes and the picture quality that photo most likely isn’t of “Irish Slaves in Georgia circa 1860.” It’s probably from a later era circa 1910.
There may have been some Irish slaves in Georgia the country in 1860, but I doubt that there were any in Georgia the US state.
The War of Independence ended the British government’s ability to ship English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh debtors, criminals, and kidnapped people to the United States. After 1783, these people were shipped to Australia. By 1860, the indentured servants sent to the future U.S. before 1775 were dead or had been free.
“There is traction to be gained from learning about ancient Israel’s singlemindedness during their ancestors’ self-sacrifice at Masada”
A profound act of cowardice and murder.
Nice camera for 1860, heh.
That’s BS. Irish were not slaves in America that were brought here against their will, and could be bought and sold. They came here often on signed work contracts 5 to 7 years.
And no... that is not a photo from 1860. Matthew Brady wasn’t out there posing kids. Try 1930s, and a people would go out after the mechanical harvest and collect bags full.... they would get paid 10 cents a pound +/-. You took all the kids.
My family did it...
” population of Irish, Scots Irish and English “indentured servants”, whose legal status can’t be explained away because there were some documents involving the term “indentured”—they were slaves.”
They were starving in Ireland. Someone would pay for their passage in exchange for a work contract. Their babies were not born into slavery and at the end of the contract, they could leave and do as they pleased. Work sucked back then no matter where you worked... but it ain’t slavery.
The Irish slavery was in Ireland at the hands of the English, and in North Africa from Barbary Pirates. It wasn’t in North America.
Do some research before posting.
Google says:
The “Irish Slaves” Myth
The idea that Irish people were enslaved in the 19th-century United States is generally considered a myth by historians.
While many Irish were transported as indentured servants in the 17th century—a different, non-hereditary form of servitude—this practice had ceased long before 1860.
our right to continue to exist without fear of nuclear annihilation.
It must be in the fine print at the bottom of the page...

Google agrees with X:
The image, taken in 1913 by Lewis Hine, shows children picking cotton on a farm in Bells, Texas.
There were probably a few Irish slaves brought here against their will before the early 17th century. In other words, before blacks captured other blacks and sold them into slavery in droves making black slaves cheaper than other slaves. Until that point in time 4 centuries ago, as Thomas Sowell teaches, almost all slaves around the world were the same race as his master. At least race as we define it today (lumping all whites into one white race, all eastern Asians into one race, etc.).
But those pre-black slaves, including Irish, were nothing as numerous as the slaves after blacks became cheap slaves.
And you're doing exactly that right there.
If you don't like being outed as an anti-semite, then try not making it so apparent. You sound like the Provos when they align themselves with Palestinians.
You're worried about Iran getting nuked when it's the Mullahs that have always expressed the desire to eliminate Israel? You're out of your mind.
If the Israeli's wanted to nuke Iran they could've done it already. Instead, they choose to attack Iran's nuclear program by hitting nuclear sites and killing Iranian nuclear scientists quite a bit more conventionally. And I'm sure such facilities and people are still on their target list.
And if I were in Israel's shoes, I would do the same.
I was born in 1970. My grandmother share cropped tomatoes and strawberries while she was the personal assistant to the president of Aetna insurance in Indianapolis. On the weekends we all looked like this. Best times and if we wore our school clothes, well you know.
