While some argue for destroying the terminal through which 90% of Iran’s oil exports flow, others caution of a global market ‘tailspin’
Wed 11 Mar 2026 02.00 EDT Share Kharg Island – through which 90% of Iran’s oil exports flow – is arguably the country’s most sensitive economic target but the export terminal has so far remained untouched throughout the US-Israel bombing campaign.
Experts say bombing or capturing the site with US forces would be likely to cause a sustained increase to already surging oil prices, as it would amount to taking the entirety of Iran’s daily crude exports offline.
“We may see the $120 a barrel price we saw on Monday heading to the $150 if Kharg were attacked,” said Neil Quilliam, with the Chatham House thinktank. “It’s too vital for global energy markets”.

I wouldn’t put it past the IRGC to bomb Kharg Island and blame the U.S.
For now need to leave these oil facilities for the next government so there is money for the population.

Well we didn't bomb the site (the oil facilities, that is, just the military assets there) and didn't capture it.

The reason the Coalition didn’t bomb Iraq’s oil facilities in 2003 was because they were needed to fund the government and reconstruction. The Iraqis had a nasty civil war over control of the oil proceeds.
We gave marines on the way there now. And they bombed all the military parts. I suspect we are going to take it over.
