Kelly Clarkson called out 'lying' American Idol over a shock snub - over two decades after being the first winner of the reality singing competition.
The 43-year-old star - who recently broke her silence on quitting her daytime talk series - got candid about the topic during Tuesday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
She had been joined by guests Daniel Radcliffe as well as the season four winner of The Traitors, Rob Rausch.
When Clarkson asked Rausch about his prize of $220,800, the Love Island alum revealed to the Breakaway songstress that he is still awaiting the payment.
'You know what, I relate to this!' the music artist expressed. 'I relate to this so hardcore. You probably weren't alive when I was on American Idol but I was literally on the show.
She added, 'And they were like, "Oh, you win a million dollars," or whatever. No, you didn't. They lied. It was, like, a million dollars worth of investment in you.'
The Harry Potter actor quickly interrupted with, 'Wait, what?' while Clarkson insisted with, 'Yes!'
The performer continued, 'And then they said you get a car. And I needed it because my car was bashed in and I couldn't afford the deductible. And then - no! I did not get a car.'

Kelly Clarkson reportedly has an estimated net worth of $60 million.
Hush Piggy.
“She added, ‘And they were like, “Oh, you win a million dollars,” or whatever. No, you didn’t. They lied. It was, like, a million dollars worth of investment in you.”
Considering he successes since American idol, I wouldn’t be bitching if I were her.
Man people can be ungrateful. SMH
Da wimmins gonna biatch. All the time. They’re all angry these days. Screamin’ banshees.
+1
Yes. She has money and fame. American Idol got her there so STFU you spoiled little simp.
Postmodern Jukebox is great.
She doesn't need to hush. She was pretty much broke when promised all this. You think that was fair?
They benefited from advertising prize money and a car, then reneged.
Right. No idea how much of any of that is true, but the average person only knows before American idol, no one had ever heard of Kelly Clarkson. After American idol, Kelly Clarkson was rich and famous.
Maybe there are people that have a legitimate axe to grind against American idol, but KC isn’t one of them.
“They benefited from advertising prize money and a car, then reneged.”
I get that. Total B.S. on their part.
However, with the exposure she made out very well.
I don’t know why she wouldn’t have used a tiny portion of her fortune to sue them, provided she actually has a case against them.
If she doesn’t have a strong case, she may have to defend her defamatory remarks in court.
I know they never said you get $1M. But they said you get a $1M contract. Which was always kind of vague to me.
Now that she's $60M ahead and getting out of the game she should be using her experience advising young people about hollywierd's liars, perverts, abusers, thieves and broken promises.
It’s great that Clarkson is rich now, but are ALL of the winners rich and famous? No. They were promised the same things, but didn’t get them either AND they didn’t get rich.
So, the bait and switch is ok if you make it big?
This is typical of the old game shows. You couldn’t afford to keep the prizes because of the taxes. It is what it is. If something sounds too good to be true it usually is.
The contestants should look past the promised prizes to the exposure, I guess. But it does sound like a bait and switch.
I’d say it paid off regardless of what she didn’t get after winning the show.
She worked for it. She was laughing as she said it. Why not call them out if they lied?
Sad but true.
This is legalese because RTL Group (German television network, owns the franchise) owns numerous game shows that give cars and cash.
