Excellent point. In terms of the content available, you could get delivered to you. It was worth your money. As they moved away from the DVD by male model, they were able to get rid of the good content and substitute a lot of of really crappy content instead. You had more choices, but none of them were really good.
Loved opening the mail box and seeing the red envelopes. N incredible list of films in the queue.
Also loved going to the video store and choosing a film then picking up a pizza. Made it an event. There is something about treating being entertained as an event rather than a constant. Allows better discernment imho.
I come from an era and a family where the television was not on all day. And when on... only for certain shows. Where reading was the normative fallback.
I continue it by having my television screen in a little used room and setting up for a film when I want to be entertained.
