David Brody on x (trump in 1980 on Iran- clip)

When it comes to striking Iran, Donald Trump has been consistent for 47 years. Look at this clip from October 1980 when he called for military intervention to free American hostages taken during the Iranian Revolution. Also FYI: during his 2016,2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns, he consistently said multiple times that Iran "will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon." Below is the 1980 transcript:

Donald Trump in 1980: "When you get the respect of other countries then the other countries tend to do a little bit as you do and you can create the right attitudes. The Iranian situation is a case in point. That they hold our hostages is just absolutely and totally ridiculous. That this country sits back and allows a country such as Iran to hold our hostages to my way of thinking is a horror and i don't think they'd do it with other countries. I honestly don't think they'd do it with other countries."

Rona Barrett: "Obviously you're advocating that we should have gone in there with troops et cetera and brought our boys out."

Donald Trump: "I absolutely feel that yes. I don't think there's any question in it, there's no question in my mind.I think right now we'd be an oil-rich nation and I believe that we should have done it and I'm very disappointed that we didn't do it and i don't think anybody would have held us in abeyance. I don't think anybody would have been angry with us and we had every right to do it at the time. I think we've lost the opportunity."

This interview is remarkable. I saw it recently after seeing a freeper reference it.

It seems a young age for a man to be as grounded and certain of who he is and what he believes, as Donald Trump was:

Huh. So the Joooooos had a hand up Trumps butt even 40 years ago, who knew.

(Do I really need a /s tag? Given the tone around FR the last couple days, probably so...the Jooooo haters have really ramped up lately)

gee, its a good thing he didn’t campaign on no war with Iran (or others) and accuse his opponents of being the ones who would start it

You seem rather butt hurt. Do you think it is even possible that circumstances can change?

I remember 3 campaigns on no new foreign wars and him stating Iran in particular would be a huge mistake

Many of us voted for draining the swamp, going after bad people (Epstein files, J6 prosecutions, DOGE, spending cuts) and got the opposite

Its a shame because we had a great opportunity here and it’s almost certainly been squandered

Actually, he campaigned on ENDING wars.

And that’s what he’s doing now, trying to end a war that’s been raging for 47 years - longer than the Cold War against the Soviet Union.

It’s quite remarkable.

Exactly, Iran declared war on the US in the 70s, and never declared an end to the war. They’ve been waging war with us ever since.

Trump didn’t start this war, but he will end it.

“””and accuse his opponents of being the ones who would start it””””

They DID start it. He ended it

Being disappointed in Carter and how he bungled the hostage crisis in 1980 is not remarkable. This was a mainstream view. A reason Reagan won in a landslide.

I’ve watched plenty of real videos of him but here are references to many of them.

He campaigned against this and no amount of spin will change that

The lore at the time was that it was a very close election that broke only last few days after the last debate. You seem to be sad that he is doing something that democrats have talked about doing for 47 years.

Iran has been waging war with everyone around them. Trump is ending that. I guess you think when someone punches another person in the nose and that person fights back and ends the fight you blame them for starting the fight.

How retarded of you.

The main question now is, is “this,” “That?” Is this a war or a raid like the one on Natanz? No doubt his presidency , and the future of our country rides on it.
