How do you not see his use of the historical context as to the intent of the constitution is doing exactly what you claim he did not
Alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and morphine in varous forms ALL were pretty much in common use in the 17-1800s..
It really only gets to be HUGE issue once the government takes it away, says it’s bad and gives control of it over to the criminals.

He’s a pothead trying to use drinkers in his argument as a cover for potheads.
A sane country imports and allows the sale of coca leaf. It is a stimulant beyond methamphetamines, with no downside. Just the leaf, and not enough to manufacture it into the chemical.
The difference is that back in the days of our Founders, they had consciences tuned to God. Not so much today.
Revolutionary era people drank ale and cider because water wasn’t safe to drink. They also drank because life was hard and depressing much of the time.
Workman’s Comp came about circa 1910.
Intoxicating drugs were made illegal at about the same time.
Incarcerating people is expensive, so governments try to avoid it.

It is interesting to note that the most culturally conservative Christians, the Amish and Old Order Mennonites, drink wine and beer. Tobacco use, in the form of pipes and cigars, is also not unknown among them.
There’s also the possibility that Mr. Pothead might pick up an addictive drug habit and might pay for it handing over a gun to a dealer who might pass it on to a dealer supplier.
All this nonsense about unsafe water... They had wells, just like wells today. Water from the underground aquifer is safe to drink, and people then weren’t retarded, read actual texts, not just two hundred years ago, even two thousand years ago... they were pretty damned sharp and understood far more than moderns give them credit for. Beer and ale were consumed because they enjoyed it AND because they needed the extra calories due to a much more active lifestyle, and beer/ale (not so much hard liquor => can be dehydrating then slightly) is an easy way to add some calories while you work and quench your thirst at the same time. For those who work hard outside doing physical labor, the same still holds.
It is not nonsense and the wells of the past were nowhere as deep as the wells we use today and there was a fundamental lack in understanding as to the contaminants that water can carry.
In ancient Rome mixing wine with water was a common practice and well documented, I believe the concoction was called merum.
Also, often water was not only obtained from a well. This is all well (pun intended) established history, do a little research.
In 1794 farmers rebelled when Alexander Hamilton sought to put an excise tax on whiskey. George Washington had to personally lead a contingent of militia to restore order.

And to add. Back then they were in pain with bad teeth etc. had to numb it.

People back then, especially in urban settings, drank brewed and fermented beverages because it was safer than drinking water. It had a slight alcoholic content (1-3%) but not like beer we drink today.
Such beverages no longer exist because we can get clean water, so a lot of time people are confusing modern beer to those types of alcoholic drinks.
