Is it easy for a car to accidentally come unhooked? How did the tow truck driver think he wouldn't be caught? Seems like he will be in a lot more trouble leaving the scene. They don't mention the driver or the towing company. Is the driver an illegal alien? Driver should be on the hook for manslaughter. The towing company should have a $1 million insurance policy and his relatives should get all of it, with death and the way this happened.

My husband was behind and in lane to left of a car carrier on turnpike and a car fell off- fortunately it skidded to right between traffic/cars and ended up on side of road- tires burning and smoking

Isn’t it amazing how people panic, stop thinking logically and flee the scene?

Let me guess: the tow driver was named Singh.

It has happened to even the best of us, but this is why you install chains to back up your straps when on a wheel lift.

I assume this was a repo operation and the tard obviously wasn’t operating correctly.

Not sure about in PA, but in CA the repo trucks are not required to display names or phone numbers, just a Repo license number on the side.

if his truck was unmarked, and his plates hidden, the rat has a good chance of evading if he just lays low for a while.

re the insurance, considering how impossible it is for honest companies to get insurance due to the fraud in the industry, I’ll bet you if he had insurance, it wasn’t for repo work(car hauler is a common way people get insurance on paper to run crap, which does not cover tow and recovery operations) and the insurance won’t cover it.

An extension ladder fell off a truck that was in front of me about 12 years ago. I was spared as it bounced on one end and flipped over my car. My entire body sweat all at once. No one was behind me. The truck pulled over immmediatrly to fetch the ladder.

Better than facing street justice. It's Filthadelphia.

A friend got t-boned by a young (black) kid in our town.

The kid took off. He returned about 15-20 minutes later. Turns out the car belonged to an older relative of the boy. That relative apparently talked some sense into him, or perhaps the boy simply had no clue that you can't leave the scene of an accident - particularly one you caused.

The police didn't bust the kid's ass, and my friend, who is very kind person, didn't make a big deal about it either, even though he did get some minor injuries.

The article says the tow truck was found at an apartment complex, and the company was being contacted.

My guess is it will be determined to be a stolen truck, no idea who the driver was, the SUV was stolen and that’s why the vehicle was not properly secured, etc. The insurance on the truck, if any, might cover the damage. This reeks of “third world situation”.

In high school I drove a tow truck and pumped gas as a part time job in the 70's. I was asked to go hook up a Dodge Cricket inside a man's garage and bring it to the shop. I had no idea it lacked a locking steering column and I picked it up from the back. I made the turn exiting his driveway and heard all kinds of ruckus. Suddenly a Dodge Cricket was along side my driver's widow, waving it the air and bouncing off parked cars. I darn near pissed myself. I stopped to get things in order but it was a bad neighborhood and very angry residents began to gather in an angry mob, so I dropped the now wrecked Dodge Cricket and fled the scene.

My boss made me take the next tow job a few hours later. Great man. He went back to the carnage and handed out insurance info and took care of the police report.

I was flying down the 110 east some years ago when the entire side of a truck carrying water bottles let go. They came bouncing down the freeway dead ahead of me. Fortunately, those bounced over my car. Not so lucky for those on each side of me.

Had one sitting in the right lane on the flyover from I-25 South to I-40 east in Albuquerque last week. As of this morning, there is still some debris from it, but the big pieces are nowhere to be seen. I called it in, but no one came out to move it before the weekend.

I did the same job in the late 60s and early 70s ... we tied off the steering wheel with a rope ... most cars didn’t have locking steering columns back then if I remember correctly ...

I don’t know but I keep my distance from anything being towed or hauled. Especially car carriers and rolled steel carriers.

Sheet metal has been known to slide off the backs of carriers and slice into following cars.

I am aware, that’s why I didn’t get into it, even though the profit margins in my area was significantly better then the usual BS we had here.

Per other reportage, the cops have ID’d the towing company, but the driver is still on the lam.
