The speeding Texas driver who killed the Dixie Chicks founding member Laura Lynch has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after he made a plea deal with prosecutors over the deadly 2023 crash.
Domenick Chavez, 33, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was handed the reduced jail stint after he admitted to recklessly driving over 100 mph when he struck Lynch, 65, in the head-on smash just days before Christmas, according to KFOX.
Chavez, who was driving despite having a suspended license because of two previous DWI convictions, attempted to swerve around four cars on the highway just before 6 p.m. in Hudspeth County, Texas.
The reckless driver was going between 106 and 114 mph when he collided head-on with Lynch’s Ford F-150, near Cornudas between El Paso and Dell City.
Lynch, the original bassist for the bluegrass group, was killed instantly.
Chavez’s truck burst into flames because of the collision, and he was hospitalized with “non-life-threatening” injuries.
Investigators ruled Chavez was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs but determined he had been speeding at the time of the crash.
Lynch had family roots in the area and divided her time between Fort Worth and Dell City, where she maintained rental properties and advocated for her hometown, the El Paso Times reported.
“The death of Ms. Lynch caused profound sadness for her family, the Dell City community, and all those who appreciated her music. It is a loss made more acute by the fact that it happened just days before Christmas,” said James Montoya, the El Paso district attorney, according to the outlet.

Hate plea deals, they subvert and deny victims of justice.
Democrats: It was just a woman
“Democrats: It was just a woman”
How would they know?
Like our healthcare system and our educational system, our criminal justice system is far more expensive and unwieldy than those found in other first world countries. That explains the reliance on plea deals.
I have long been for an overhaul of our legal system and doubly so for tort reform.
I would start with jury selection, first no women, second if you do not work at a job that pays taxes (no jobs where you effectively get all your taxes back at the end of the year) or in the military (gov jobs other than military do not count) you cannot serve on a jury.
or if you are in a government employee union ...

.
We should have lawyers accomplish this...
OMG NOOOOoooooo...!
LOL and my daughter is a lawyer, a good conservative one too and still I believe as I just wrote.
did he get 15 years because she was in a band? what would the sentence be if he killed an unknown?
The drunk often survives these things 😠😡
Condolences to the victim’s family 😔😔😔🙏🛐

Oops should have read further down
STILL
Condolences to the victim’s family 😔😔😔🙏🛐
Hopefully he is at least in constant pain for the rest of his life.
Was he an illegal?
the two founding members that remain in the band today were born in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
That sounds Dixie to me.
I saw a pic somewhere else and he looked like a gang member. Had tattoos all over his face. He sure looked illegal.
The wrong people almost always are the ones killed in situations like this.
As long as the judicial jugheads have “plea deals”, there will never be any justice in America. The judiciary is just worthless wreckage falling off the crumbling U.S. Government now being run by useless illegal alien losers who snuck into whitey’s America after their primitive failed socialist experiments failed at the crapholes they created.
It certainly was unfortunate he chose to speed and be involved in the death of a famous liberal singer/peformer. They threw the book at him. It would have been better for this perpetrator to have killed a clerk in an armed robbery. He would have received a significantly lighter sentence. And he would likely be back on the street in less time.
