This says something about the CIA.
I think it says that it is left-wing and has been more pro-communist than anti-communist. How long? Perhaps going back before Kennedy.
The rosier view is that the leftists no longer feel at home in the CIA. Internal dialog: keep telling yourself that.

So the old CIA/intel purview of not operating within the US and on US citizens has been long ignored? This feels like some X-Files episodes and what makes me so uneasy is that you're data driven and not a conspiracy-philic kind of person.
