Such an underrated band, that Dealy Stan.

This thread got me thinking of all the media formats that have come and gone in the relatively short space of our lifetimes. Audio’s gone from reel-to-reel and vinyl records to 8-Track, then cassettes, CDs and now MP3 formats. Home audio/visual rose through 8mm reels, Laserdisks, the VHS vs. Betamax thing, DVDs, Blu-Rays and now digital downloads.

You can’t buy a new computer anymore that has a disc player in it. It’s all USB slots (which are up to generation 3 now), memory cards and internet. We’re pressured to use and trust other people’s servers with all storage and information transfer (The CLOUD), and urged to ditch personally owned software and use others internet equivalents.

All that really makes me value the rare time left anymore to crack open an old-fashioned book and let it take my mind away from the hurtling pace to the future for a while.

MikelTackNailer, you are right.
Dealy Stan, as well as they rate already, are still underrated!

We have indeed gone through a slew of media also.

However, CDs, DVDs, and BlueRays are still a thing, readers and writers. I have a number that plug into USBs of all types. Although I do not need them much. And Walmart still has players for TV or stereo or whatever you want to hook them to. I mainly have been using them to digitize onto solid state “hard drives.” And I keep the discs and inserts (without the boxes) to prove I bought them. Lots of good stuff still at estate and garage sales on those discs and vinyl too.

And you are right about the hurtling pace to the future too. Slow reading with no batteries involved, very nice.

Wish my eyes were working like they used to, however...
