The 40-year-old man was stabbed by his wife after a misunderstanding while watching a Napoli game at their home, according to Italian media.

A Napoli supporter was allegedly stabbed by his wife at their home after an argument broke out when he lost his temper while watching a match on TV, Italian media reported.

The 40-year-old became frustrated as his side lost 2-1 to Atalanta in Serie A on Sunday, according to L'Unione Sarda daily newspaper.

He reportedly shouted insults at the TV after a controversial VAR decision overturned a penalty that had been awarded to Napoli.

The man's 35-year-old wife believed the abuse was aimed at her, resulting in a massive argument between the pair, the newspaper reported.

The woman is said to have threatened her husband and told him that she would stab him if he did not leave the room.

When he refused, she reportedly threw a pair of scissors at him, missing her target.

The woman then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband in his left side, according to reports. The man is said to have then called the police, during which time his wife allegedly threw more knives at him, one of which was lodged in a wall.

Police arrived at the property and arrested the woman on several charges, including domestic violence and aggravated assault, the newspaper reported.

The man was reportedly taken to the Ospedale del Mare hospital, where he was treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Reigning Italian champions Napoli are currently third in the Serie A table, four points behind AC Milan and 14 points adrift of leaders Inter Milan.

I've never understood the passion some feel for sports teams. Players who are not from your area, doing it only for money and fame.
I have a friend who lives and dies by his favorite team. His whole week will be ruined by a lost game.
Sports nerds.

First, Napoli fans are incredibly passionate. When Maradona was playing for them a fan yelled out to him “Maradona, you are as important as the Pope”. He reportedly said something along the lines of ‘That’s a low bar.’.

Second, VAR in any sport can be either helpful or infuriating.

Third, in my view it would be easy for his wife to misinterpret his displeasure as being violent. My impression from time in Italy is that any conversation can sound like a blood curdling dispute in Italian - even if you are just talking about the weather.

Sucks to be an Italian soccer fan, Bodo Glimt, a team from a city in Norway of about 50,000 people, defeated Inter Milan.

Wasn't Bodo Glimt a character from Lord of the Rings?

Wow!

I watched the first leg, but I wasn’t able to watch the second leg today. Congrats to them!

Of course, I’m Liverpool all the way (we aren’t winning it), but I’m on the Bodo/Glimt bandwagon. Or, as I call them, North Pole FC.
