Alysa Liu was born via surrogacy to a single father, and his motives are questionable
Americanthinker ^

Her father decided to have her born by way of an anonymous egg donor and a surrogate mother.

His obsession about having a figure skating daughter was clear: ‘I spared no money, no time,’

Alysa was intentionally created for a single-parent household; she will never know what it means to have a mother. Is this a fair and ethical decision to make?

She’s a pro-American girl so her father must have done something right, as opposed to the San Francisco values Eileen Gu, who chose to represent Communist China for money.

**(I don’t think the average Chinese person has an issue over ‘flat chests, noses and butts’ They have their own concepts and ideals of beauty. Jeez...)**
Wanna bet?

**thought that was Eileen Gu, not Alysa Liu.
They’re both genetically engineered test tube “Human 2.0” babies.**
**It’s gonna be a brave new world!**
**Wow. This is a little scary.**

Todd Marinovich-prime example.

Stronger males are the preferred mating partners. What could end up happening is that the world could end up with just a few ‘select’ fathers and everyone will end up brother/sister-Brave New World? Medical issues-if everyone had Sydney Sweeney’s genes wouldn’t we all look good?

HMMM. Is that really here mother? Several places I read said all the children were from surrogates, and there was no mother.

I think it just means that she wasn’t the biological mother of any of them. But he was apparently married, then divorced, and the ex-wife helped to care for this girl.

I had the same question when I read the first story.
Mother? It made no sense.
And I thought I read that there was a divorce.
Can anyone clear that up?

It's pretty clear in the source article:

'Her father decided to have her born by way of an anonymous egg donor and a surrogate mother. It was probably much more convenient than getting married again (he has an ex-wife). Alysa Liu has four more sisters, born in the same way. '

And then it goes on to indicate that the ex-wife did help to care for Alysa despite no biological relationship.

That does make sense.
I guess the real question is
How long did she play mom
and for which of the girls,
before the divorce?
I guess it’s none of my business. Lol

Don’t blame him.

Nick Cage’s wives have to come from somewhere.

So was Yao Ming in the old fashioned select breeding model. This is nothing new.

It’s because a man did it. If an AWFUL hitting the wall bought custom sperm she would be celebrated for being strong and independent.

Yeah, women have five children from five different fathers and it's, "You go girl. You're a boss babe. You don't need no man."

Would it be more "fair and ethical" if she'd never existed at all? Because that's the result if you say the father should not have done this.

I'll also say that the girl doesn't appear to be some brow-beaten showbiz kid pressured to succeed no matter what -- she apparently does this with a lot of joy and has a good attitude.

Seems like he knew what he was doing.//sarc

And if he “really” wanted a great skater he wouldn’t have done “anonymous” donations…he would have searched for the best physical characteristics.

These stories diminish the work and success of the woman. She was on the ice. Not him.

This isn’t necessary. Do we always have to pick apart someone else's life who has done well?

Amen. It's borderline cruel for people to make this a public story at her moment of greatest success and happiness.

Maybe intentional single parenthood is wrong. But is trying to tear down some accomplished person for no good reason at all.

Yes it is. This is the kind of thing that many conservatives have been doing that I despise.

Too much judgmental BS.

Fine if people want to discuss the issue, but using her to demean and discuss like she is less than human is disgusting. Leaving her name out of it would be easy to do.

This young woman worked hard her whole life at her sport. Walked away for a couple years when she was being pressured too hard and asked to basically starve herslf for the gold.

Then mounted a great comeback. Her whole family was in the audience to cheer her on.

She never said one nasty thing about America at those games.

Maybe finding a woman willing to have kids just didn’t work out for him, and he wanted a kid. I’d agree that having two parents is best, but when the alternative is her not having life at all, I don’t know how it can be argued against.

The whole promise of freezing your eggs to delay childbirth is a lie told to many women. The success rates are very low for older women to get pregnant and carry successfully to term. Its also very expensive. A whole lot of women have found out - too late and at their cost - that this is a fantasy for the vast majority of them.
