The leading icon of the American Right in the 1960s into the 1970s was Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-AZ). He was so beloved that the party’s base made him their presidential nominee in 1964 despite the widespread belief that he was too “extreme” to ever get elected (LBJ crushed him in a landslide). He represented Arizona in the US Senate for 30 years.
Goldwater (whose father was Jewish) talked to Pat Buchanan in 1988 about many topics. Here’s what he said about Israeli influence in the US:

Goldwater took 6 states. That is 5 more than McGovern running against Nixon and Mondale or running against Reagan.

I was told if I voted for Goldwater we’d have riots in the streets and get into a long unwinnable war. Well I voted for Goldwater, and darn if they weren’t right!

Today it seems clear to me that it’s not about Israel, but about Muslims. They war against everyone, even themselves sometimes. They are taking over Britain and making inroads elsewhere, including the US.
Their behavior varies based upon their percentage of the population. So don’t be taken in the nice Muslims when they are 5% of the population. They won’t stay nice long!

I liked reading Sobran. After a break of several years, I went to his blog and did not agree with his opinion on an important topic. I was disappointed.
It was a bit like watching Christopher Hitchens tearing into Islam, then turn around and tear into Christianity and Judaism. These flips force you to consider what is, and what is not, fair play.
I still remember Sobran arguing that we each need an anchor. For him, it was Elizabethan England. Democrats could flip on border enforcement and Trump could flip on the importance of Epstein files, but your anchor remained fixed.
